2012

I decided to take the ageing effects further with this image because, as someone commented the original lacked finishing touches. I've experimented with feathering. All comments and advice gratefully received

There is a tree I pass by each day which, at this time of year has round spikey seed pods hanging from its' branches. It's bark is rough and motled. Some its' branches look sharp and ragged when silhouetted against the sky. So far as I can tell from "googling" they are Sycamores, sometimes known as London Planes.

I took a series of photogaphs of them. These are the black and white versions. I think the silhouettes of the tree and its' seed pods have more impact in black and white. They have also been manipilated in Elements with different lighting effects and filters.

Ok...tricks tricks tricks....I played around with Lighting Effects in Photoshop. That, in turn, messed with the color.....and then gave it a metallic sort of flavor.

This certainly has more of a sepia feel than I originally wanted, but I'm definitely happy with the result. Color burns, hard light, overlays, gradient mapping... I very much enjoyed working on this one!

2018 Light Night Leeds West Yorkshire UK (04-10-18 / 05-10-18)

Light Night Leeds is one of the UK’s largest annual arts and light festivals. Over two special nights the city centre is transformed by spectacular light projections, interactive artworks and captivating performances by local, national and international artists. On Light Night you will discover over 60 arts events across ten zones in the city centre; from large-scale light projections and interactive artworks, to music, dance and street performances. This year Light Night Leeds celebrates the themes of progress and innovation, kicking off with a vibrant illuminated parade celebrating 100 years of social change since (some) women got the vote.

The Leeds Library, one of the city’s hidden treasures, will be the backdrop for a celebration of Leeds suffragettes, Leonora Cohen and Mary Gawthorpe, and a fearsome and fiery dragon will be making an appearance on the Queens Hotel! So, bring your family and friends along to experience a fantastic festival atmosphere and see the city in a new light!

Created with Photoshop.

This doll was given to my wife some years ago and she just dumped it in a vase of artificial flowers. We really don't take much notice until the sun was reflected off a piece of glass furniture giving this effect. I like the shadow and also the effect of the glass distorted light on the wall.

This is what happens when one is bored, it's late at night, and strange ideas pop into your head.

The effect was created by taking a brand new green sponge and slicing it thin enough so that a flash light would shine through it. The room lighting picked up these warm highlights on the edges of the sponge, which was unexpected (because it wasn't visible to me -- it still looked green), but very, very cool.

Rachel playing a game on a Nintendo DS at the side of a lake somewhere in Jacksonville, IL.

I created the black and white version to exploit the reflections in the water. The foreground is almost burnt out, but I like the slightly odd sensation of the reflection of the bridge being suspended in mid-air.

Made at home following a very simple tutorial from a random digital photography magazine.

The process involves taking different shots with an exposure of 4 seconds (at f11), while playing with a torch for interesting light effects and light trails. Subsequently you blend the lighting effects in photoshop. I also added some atmosphere by using blue tones for the background...

I've experimented with the lighting in elements to try and lighten this as it was partly shaded and glowed quite pleasantly with the sun behind it, lighting it at an angle.
