An incoming storm produced an epic lighting show in the Roan Mountains during the rhododendron time.

A portrait of my good friend Yianni the Greek.

Yianni is legendery in the Greek community in Brisbane and was the sole survivor of a car accident many years ago in which the other 2 occupants (his close friends) lost their lives.

Yiassou Yianni !!!!

Just hints of autumn showing in the leaves, but yellows and oranges are on there way

150271 crosses the River Don in the heart of Sheffield and passes some derelict industrial buildings some of which are finding new uses as gyms and meeting halls serving the community.

150271 was working the 1813 from Huddersfield.

This shot is a composite image. I was pushing the limits of low light photography, the two images are separated by only 12 minutes. I have only used the light plume from the street lamps from the second image. This has enabled me to maintain a low grain image with that lighting up feel. The last step was to darken the whole image by 1 stop.

Fantastic here

Quick note - Black Mask isn't African-American. As you can see, in the closeup with more intense lighting, his skin is red.

DCZV Profiles:

Black Mask/Roman Sionis:

As the son of one of the most influential mobsters in Gotham, Roman had high expectations to live up to. After his father's death at the hands of the GCPD, Roman took up his father's mantle of the Black Mask -- Head of Gotham's underworld. In a chance encounter with Batman and the dead Robin, his mask was welded to his face when the latter kicked him into a furnace.

Great White Shark/Warren White:

Warren White, otherwise known as "Great White Shark" after a vicious attack from Mr. Freeze, used to be a crooked financier who embezzled millions from his company's pension fund. After pleading insanity in a court case, White was sent to Arkham Asylum, where he endured torture from his various cellmates. After escaping in a riot set up by the Scarecrow, White climbed his way to the top of the food chain and established himself as one of the top arms dealers in Gotham City.

More to come. I really like the tusks on BM's mask.

Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, Colorado

The Gunnison River, a tributary of the Colorado River, has a section of gorge that is extremely deep and very narrow with impressively sheer walls carved into Precambrian basement rock. It is said that certain parts of the gorge receive direct sun light for only a half hour a day, hence the name "Black Canyon".

This section of the canyon near the Painted Wall was being lit by the setting sun. The light colored streaks of rock in the canyon walls are pegmatite, a volcanic intrusion also from Precambrian times.

From fading light into the darker confines of Walsall Station, London Midland's 323219 arrives with a local service from Wolverhampton.

My lighting is off here but I liked his expression. I'm going to try again if I can bribe him. :) Hope you're having a great weekend!

View On White

The first light of the day (about 11 AM) peeks over the ridge and illuminates the charcoal kilns at Canyon Creek, MT. These are 3 of the 23 kilns at the site. They were built in the late 1800's to supply the silver smelters at Glendale (now a ghost town) 5 miles down the road.

The kilns were located close to the timber, and according to the Beaverhead National Forest, more than 11,000 acres of wood were used to fuel the operation between 1880 and 1900 when the kilns and smelter were active.

Today, the kilns exist in various states of ruin, including 3 fully restored, whitewashed ones and some that are mere piles of rubble in an approximate ring. It is a delightful spot to visit, and if you go, you might very well be the only soul at the spot. I took my two boys (4 and 9) here on Saturday, and we had the place to ourselves the whole time we were there (about an hour).

I love the forest in winter time, you get that nice low down lighting spreading across the forest.

Happy new year everyone!

A nice little burst of sunshine, on our way up the steps and into the graveyard to put the Christmas wreath on my Mum and Dad's grave

Outside, the sun is blazing on one of the hottest days of the year, whilst here inside St Margaret’s Mission Church, the light is calm and inviting, if perhaps a little melancholic. Should you squint a little, you'll no doubt be able see the parishioners, sitting in their Sunday best, waiting for the vicar to come and lead the service.

Built in 1908 for the new village of South Wonston, this ‘tin tabernacle’ or ‘iron church’ was in regular use right up until 1996, when all services were transferred to a new church built in the centre of the village. The original building was offered to the Weald and Downland Museum in 2006, where it was rebuilt and reopened as an exhibition building in 2011.

During Diwali the temples are traditionally adorned with small oil lamps; fire regulations don't allow this custom here, so a tent is set up with long troughs filled with sand and thousands of beautiful little lamps and candles.

Taken last November on a trip through the Narrows. It was my first trip bringing my 6x17 in the Narrrows and it certainly didn't disappoint.
