The restoration of the historic Bass Mansion at the University of St. Francis is pretty much complete.
John Henry Bass, a key force in the growth of 19th century Fort Wayne, built Brookside as the centerpiece of his country estate on what is now Spring Street. After fire destroyed the first home, he rebuilt Brookside in 1903 as a steel-framed, sandstone-encased house. The founder of Bass Foundry decorated the mansion with intricate woodwork, fine artwork, valuable antiques and elegant furnishings.
The Sisters of Saint Francis of Perpetual Adoration bought the home and 65 acres south of Spring Street from the Bass family in 1944. They moved what was then Saint Francis College from Layfayette, Indiana to Fort Wayne. The mansion served as the college library until the university opened the Lee and Jim Vann Library in August 2006.

this is a light fixture gracing the ceiling of the liberty theatre in astoria, oregon. the residents of astoria have done an amazing job restoring this theatre, and were gracious enough to open it up to all us tourists to enjoy. i would definitely like to return one day to see a performance of some sort here.
this is also my first attempt at an orton photo. i saw some examples of this style in other people's photostreams and totally dug it. it instantly gives an awesome mood to a photo.
#LightFixtures - Drum light fixture – Clear tones drum screens are cylindrical light bulbs. The drum shade can be almost any diameter as long as the shadow sides are far enough away from the bulb in the center to avoid a fire hazard. Percussion tones can adorn table lamps and ceiling lamps alike. You can...
A really cool, but way too expensive, glass light fixture at an antique store.

Now I love this lamp! Will look great in the kitchen. I took it apart, cleaned it and then spray painted it with glossy red spray paint for metal.
After Norman worked his repair magic, we can now rest easier that the lamps will no longer be a fire hazard. The CFL's generate less heat, use less energy and the fixtures are no longer too hot to the touch.

Part of the first municipal stairs in Amman.
When Amman was declared the capital of Transjordan in 1921, royalty, wealthy families, businessmen, army officers, and politicians began moving onto the hill to the west and above downtown, named Jabal Amman. It slowly declined starting in the 1960s as development continued to move west. In 2005, the Greater Amman Municipality recognized Jabal Amman as a 'heritage attraction point' and set forth plans to preserve and develop the historic hill.
Tis the season for spring cleaning. I like to get it finished before it's time to work in the garden, that means a little before spring around here. Time to wash the curtains, clean the light fixtures, clean out dressers & closets and move all the furniture and scrub the floors.
Another section of the "Little Library" at the Eastman House. The Little Library was completed in 1927, after a year of work, replacing a reception room that had been in this space since 1905. Such small reception rooms, once considered essential to large houses, were not used much by the late 1920s, and George Eastman needed additional shelf space for his extensve colllection of books. He therefore decided to have the Little Library created at that time. It is a neatly panelled room paterned after the eighteenth-century designs of the Adam Brothers of England, and painted green. On a small table can be seen several of his card catalog file trays, for he had his books meticulously cataloged. Over the door he installed a carved rhinocerous, the likeness was derived from Kodak snapshots taken while he was on his big game hunting trips in Africa. The desk suggests the original with hippopotamus hide from a game hunt. The ceiling light is electric, and, observing the inefficiency of Caldwell's cut-glass chandelier, he installed an up-to-date and efficient bowl fixture, which besides casting light downward, throws it upward as well to reflect off the white ceiling. This exit leads out to the Entance Hall with the Living Room straight ahead. Located at the George Eastman House and Gardens, 900 East Ave in Rochester, NY.
After my brother's courtroom wedding, some of us took a few minutes to photographically document bits of the beautiful interior. (I was surprised and gladdened that this was perfectly allowed and even encouraged to some extent.)
This is, I think, looking down from the third floor to the second-floor balcony beyond, and the ground floor below.

Very tragic that a fire in mid June 2018 destroyed this building and artifacts.
Back in January of 2009 I had to return to the house we still owned in Romeoville, IL, to effect repairs on our ice- and water-damaged home.

I had to photographically document the damage for insurance. But while I was at it, I decided to shoot the chandelier hanging over our now empty and worse-for-wear dining room.
We no longer own the home. But at least I have the pictures!
