At our camera club we did some work with backlighting and this is one where I draped a scarf across a lightbox to get the textures and patterns.
To follow ... (too tired, off to bed :-)
Shot this last night at www.paintworksbristol.co.uk/ about 10 minute walk from Temple Meads. A great place to go for some night photos; great also if you are new to long exposure night shots.
I bought another lightbox, which is smaller because I'm usually too lazy to assemble and disassemble the big one. That's ideal for the minifigures and small scenes, and even small sets like that one. I already used it for the couple of scenes, and I'm extremely happy with the result! :)
On the east side of Stanley Park, not long after you enter from the main entrance, there is a great place to photography the Vancouver skyline. An added bonus is this awesome boat harbor. I really enjoyed my time shooting in Vancouver - the low clouds really reflected the light from the city.
If you ever visit Vancouver, you won't want to miss the beautiful views of the city. Here is my shot list of the top 5 places (in my opinion) for photographers:
1) Stanley Park (day or night). Be sure to shoot the skyline, the totems, visit the zoo, and enjoy the gardens.
2) Drive up to Cleveland Dam. There is a beautiful park there complete with hiking trails, views of the two "Lions", and an awesome reservoir.
3) Drive up to Cypress and stop off at the scenic overlook. Bring your longest lens - on a clear day you will be rewarded with some spectacular views of the city.
4) Shoot the Lion's Gate Bridge and the Vancouver skyline from West Vancouver.
5) Head on over to the Chinese Gardens and Chinatown. Vancouver has long been home to many immigrants. This is one reason why you can find so much diversity in architecture, parks, churches, and the people.
If you are efficient, you can shoot all of these in two days. I did not have a chance to shoot inside the city as much (there are many great parks, churches, and the famous Gastown area). I'm sure those are awesome as well - I will get them next time.
What are your favorite places in Vancouver?

Tonight I started making this lightbox for product / macro photography. It could use a lot of improvements, but it's a good start. My biggest mistake was buying matte poster paper for the backdrop. I need to go back to Michaels and buy the shiny stuff. I also need to cover all the brown cardboard with shiny white paper for maximum brightness!
Rollover the notes for details.
I'm doing some jewelry shots for a client tonight and using a lightbox. Man I love that thing. It makes the purdiest light.
The wrinkles on my nose are from squinting my eye to look through the viewfinder for like two hours.
That, or I am just getting old, possibly.
Test shot with the new foam tape in place. Probably need to mess with the white balance and levels, the phone camera doesn't seem to do too well

More experiments with the lightbox and im unimpressed, color is hard to get right and there is glare where i don't want it, i think i need to just stick to natural light
Very popular presents at the moment I believe. Celebrating my Daughter's birthday last month.
Funny really.....as my youngest Son, Stuart was born on the same day, same hospital, same midwife the same time and almost the same weight. A YEAR LATER.....
Finally got my room unpacked and organized. Now I can use it to take photos in my lightbox soon as I get a new light that got broken.

Some test photos using the new light box.
It's supposed to be color corrected to 5000K, whatever that means. Not sure my camera plays nice with it, but that's for other people to fix, not me.
Got some equipment set up for more consistent picture taking. This seems a pretty good starting point.
I've made some modifications to my lightbox setup, creating an outer frame to hold and support clip-on lights. It now uses three 12" reflectors on top and two 12" reflectors on each side, all with 2000 lumen 5000K color balanced compact flourescent bulbs.
I also use a larger 5000K bulb behind a filter for front lighting, but it didn't fit in the picture.
The background is a solid piece of PlasTex wall laminate cut to size.
