January 18 is Dutch Tulip Day and the new cut tulip season is festively heralded. A tulip picking garden with 200,000 tulips has been created on the Museumplein in Amsterdam. From 13:00 everyone could pick a free bunch of tulips. A few lucky ones at the Amsterdam Light Festival

The thirteenth edition of Amsterdam Light Festival (from 28 November 2024 until 19 January 2025) has the theme Rituals.

Op het Lichtplein zijn veertig identieke Afrikaanse maskers geplaatst. Ze zijn afkomstig uit het Bwindi National Park in Uganda. Zodra de eerste tonen klinken, lichten de maskers langzaam op. Kleurig licht is te zien door de openingen voor ogen en mond, maar ook op een groot projectiedoek achter de maskers. Kleine veranderingen in de belichting hebben een grote visuele impact. De voorstelling lijkt nog het meest op een magisch ritueel.
