First week in: decided I needed an extra DONE lane. :-) Also I never included a retrospective lane. I am so glad I did, it helped me greatly.

I have used post-it to mark the kings. But it looks really messy if many post-its pop up from the book. Recently, Jamie introduced that he use tagging for books (comment for my blog). So this hack is after Jamie's idea.
I put King's tag not at top but at side, because if I slide the side of book I will see the tag easily. This is something like tags for indexcards I introduced before.
This is more sophisticated than previous way. Plus, I can do all only with dermatograph. I like this simplicity :)
Putting one or two post-it may be o.k. per book. Like a crown for king of kings. But may not for all kings.

Understanding of difference between ordinary classification system and my chronological order system of index cards.
From spacial to temporal, 2-dimensional to 1-dimensional. Degree of freedom is less than ordinary system. It enable simpler management of information.

What I have been finding since I started using the multi-layered option kanban is that it has been really effective, I feel like I have a safety net within my options/projects, however my focus has not been great this week for whatever reason. So what I decided to do was to have the kanban spread out on separate pages in moleskine. On the left side of this photo are my READY pages with the multi-layered projects/options, then on the right side of the photo are the next two pages in my moleskine with my WIP/Completed lanes. What I found since starting to work this way earlier in the week is that my focus is better. I move one or two of my options into the working lane, have the moleskine open to that page and stay on that page until those options are done. This way I am not getting distracted by seeing my ready lane and going back to that to pull a different option to start on before the others (that I know should be done first) are done. What a difference working in this pk by just 'hiding' that lane has made.

Sometimes I get a little down, which hurts my productivity. Now every time I use the phone, I get a fuzzy hug!
Close up of the context cards. When a next action or to-do pops up I assign it a context and pop it in the proper bin or keep in in the inbox until my weekly review.

my wife's pumpkin this year. totally blew mine out of the water. i usually go with the most difficult of the pumpkin masters patterns, just because i can. this year, i freehanded a simple mean face (ok, it wasn't completely simple: i did give it eyebrows).
i think she said she got the idea for this from several different sources, some of which may or may not have been oprah, family fun magazine, some show on tv, some other show on tv, or a brilliant stroke of genius.
happy halloween!

I'm using DIN A7 index cards as here in germany there are no 3"x5" index cards (at least I haven't found some...)
We are almost done with our backyard renovations for this year. This almost total visualization PK was awesome to work with. We knew exactly what we wanted to do and where we needed it to be done. This was highly successful especially working with a group. I will definitely be using this type of PK again.

Recently, two products are being bought a lot worldwide. They are toilet paper and noodles. Households currently have large stocks of them and one wonders how one can make a meal out of them without wasting water or energy. This is quite simple. Take colored noodles to make the meal look better, shred the toilet paper so that many small stripes are formed. First throw the noodles on a plate and then sprinkle the shredded toilet paper on top. Then throw the food away so that you do not damage your teeth. Don't forget to take a photo as a photo reminder before throwing the food away.
Note: No food was thrown away during the production of the video. The noodles were cooked afterwards and the shredded toilet paper was glued together so you can use it.

The bedside table Personal Kanban. When I need to get something out of my head so that I can fall to sleep, this is what I use. It helps to reduce nighttime stress and lets me rest easier knowing I won't forget important tasks first thing in the morning.

Burning old Christmas trees, especially in forests, poses several significant risks:
Fire Hazard: Dry Christmas trees are highly flammable. Burning them can easily lead to uncontrolled fires, which can spread rapidly in forested areas, causing extensive damage to wildlife, vegetation, and potentially human lives and property.
Environmental Impact: Burning trees releases carbon dioxide and other pollutants into the atmosphere, contributing to air pollution and climate change. This is particularly harmful in forested areas where the goal is often to preserve natural habitats and reduce carbon footprints.
Wildlife Disruption: Fires can destroy habitats and food sources for wildlife, leading to displacement or death of animals. The smoke and heat can also cause stress and harm to animals in the vicinity.
Legal Issues: In many areas, burning Christmas trees or any kind of open burning in forests is illegal due to the high risk of wildfires. Violating these regulations can result in fines and other legal consequences.
Instead of burning, consider recycling your old Christmas tree. Many communities offer tree recycling programs where trees are chipped into mulch or composted, providing a more environmentally friendly disposal method.
Week review is done by leaf-through a set of indexcard. Less than a minute for reviewing indexcard of a week.
Repeat leaf-through-ing until you are enough.
Usually, I look at title of indexcard. (Title is so important for quick review!) If there is a picture, it attract my attension and enhance my recognition.
Lately I have several projects which are fairly big with many smaller options related to that bigger project. I noticed when I am working on the bigger option without the layers or smaller options written down, I think I am done with the option and then realize I forgot something related to that project/option. So I have been "experimenting" with working by piggy-backing or multi-layering the projects/options. By taking the time to really brainstorm about my project (using a mind map) before I begin my work, has helped me to carefully think out every step involved, so that I am not doubling back to re-do something or add a part to the main project that I forgot.

I put the Receipt card into the Dock. The pocket is slightly larger than actual indexcard.
Put it just front of "This week" index. TheReceipt card is hidden by indexcards of the week. But it is no problem because it doesn't need to be reviewed frequently.
Mine is a take off on using binder clips for cable management. For years I struggled with the hassle of losing cables behind my desk. For a while I used magnetic bulldog clips, but the magnets weren't strong enough to guarantee that the weight of the cable wouldn't pull them off.
Sorry for the shitty photo, but you get the idea.
Okay, so my first take on the Hipser PDA didn't really work out for me that way I'd like. Hopefully, this old Hartmann jotter I just dug out of the closet will serve me better. Here's the back.
I lose half my brain when I'm traveling, possibly more.
Assiduous organizing helps keep me from certain ruin. In the glass on the left are the absolute CAN'T LOSE items like my room key (card), my macbook dongle and my car keys. Also, pens, I always lose pens. The ice bucket contains all my electronic junk that I always tuck into little pockets everywhere and lose seemingly forever.
Added bonus of this approach is that it makes late night drinking in my hotel room complicated and annoying, even though the largest liquor store in New England is next door to this hotel.
I decided yesterday morning that I needed to devote some time to my options that were small and quickly done but that I for one reason or another ( I don't like talking on or making phone calls) I avoided. So I came up with a "morning starter quick hits" pk page in my moleskine right before my main PK page (see: www.flickr.com/photos/swimmor/7929519322/in/photostream ) in my Moleskine. This page is just for very quick priorities that I need to get out of the way to begin my day on a productive note. I'm only two days in, but I am thoroughly impressed with how this has been working out. I put what has been an average of 4 options in the night before and start my morning here first. Quickly completed, highly effective, it sets the tone for an efficient flow of options the rest of the day, and bonus, I get my least favorite of my options out of the way first.

"Toilet paper is usually supplied as a long strip of perforated paper wrapped around a paperboard core for storage in a dispenser near a toilet. Most modern toilet paper in the developed world is designed to decompose in septic tanks, whereas some other bathroom and facial tissues are not. "

Recently there is an uncontrollable buying desire for toilet paper in the civilized world, so that many nice families cannot get a supply of toilet paper. What can you do? Take an old, dusty digital camera, take a photo of your last sheet of toilet paper, making sure that the paper is spread out smoothly. And then just print it out. If you need more than one sheet, then print several sheets. Did you think it would be so easy to solve the problem?

After creating the original mind.Depositor with clips and used it for a while, I found a small problem but it bugs me on regular basis. To insert and pull out the cards, it requires force, no matter how small it is, it creates stress. That's why superior Japanese stationery designs often put into considerations how to reduce user efforts. They call the practice "Universal Design".
So I set out to do a simpler version by using two pieces of leather only. I also have a practice to carry a small notepad or Field Notes to capture to-do inputs temporarily before transferring them to GTD index cards. So I'm adding a slit for the notepad and a slit to store extra blank index cards.
On the left hand side of the cover, I can put a notepad by inserting it to a slit, put blank GTD index cards in the pocket and insert a Field Notes.
On the right hand side I can put two categories of index cards (Personal and Work) into different pockets.
There is also a flap used as a bookmark or enclosure.
The whole thing becomes more compact and functional. It requires less effort to use, it is a simpler design with pleasant leather as the only material, I'm so happy with it. I especially like the color contrast of the outer white and inner brown. So check out the sections below and learn how to create your own.

In the course of my workday, I am often compelled to use this handy stapler to affix various documents to one another. However, sometimes I staple in err, and fixing it involves a drawn-out and inefficient process of putting down the stapler, picking up(or perhaps even finding) the staple remover, removing the offending fastener, and then starting the whole process over from scratch. Well, I say "no more!" Thanks to my ingenious staplerhack, I can now do twice the work in half the time.
This makes sense if you've read Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity by David Allen. For this, I used old two-pocket folders and made tabs out of index cards. I'm already thinking of all kinds of stuff to put in there. The blog 43folders.com is named after the tickler file system, which requires 43 folders: 31 for the days of the month and 12 for the months of the year.
