....perhaps sometimes we forget that books were, are, will be written with the aim to share with other persons culture, in the past as well as in the present and in future...
books are culture, but they are art too and for this reason they have to take in their whole and not single sentences (or it should be like to take away a single house or a single tree from a landscape picture or only the mouth or eyes from a portrait...)...
the authors of a masterpiece had and has and will have the gift of creativity and he or she created and will create the masterpiece (a book as well as a picture) as they imagine and think in its whole and not a part only... in the same way they are the whole knowledge of its Author and we have to love and respect it...
if we wish we can approve or not the contents of books but first we have "to read"
(the same for a picture or another art masterpiece) carefully and understand, for what we are able, the content...
only in this way they become part of our own culture...
may be sometimes we forget what we read in the time passing, but,
if it is part of our own culture, we always remember where we can find it again...
this is the meaning of books, this is the meaning of written masterpieces (whatever the subject might be) and it is not important if sometimes they are so old and the content is outdated or outmoded, we have to remember that in that time when they were written they were the most modern and the best, further many times
WE HAVE SO MUCH TO LEARN FROM THE PAST...
BUT,
OUR OWN CULTURE IS OUR OWN LIFE, WHAT WE LEARN EVERY DAY FROM OUR OWN LIFE, DAY BY DAY, WITH LOVE, CREATIVITY AND RESPECT FOR EVERYTHING IS AROUND US...
this is only my opinion...

Water elemental of unknown origin and sister MOC to Taliss. I enjoyed utilizing all the shades of translucent blue on one MOC. I think the overall color pallet and gradients turned out pretty good if not a tad chaotic. I also like the bubble shapes on her back using the large ribbed hoses, nice design symmetry with her straight up bubble wand staff.

...this just started as an exercise in using the black cluny lace as a skirt hem, then--well, I won;t say it went out of control, because I resisted making a petticoat and purse and hat-instead-of-hairclip, because I figured, if I made that many pieces, then no-one who follows me would want to afford it...
I stumbled across this delightful fountain one afternoon. I had to wait for some time before the people who were filling their water bottles moved away.
The fountain dei Libri (of the Books) was designed by Lombardi and built in travertine in 1927. The head of a deer, symbol of the district, is represented in a niche crowned by an arch with the inscription SPQR. Two ancient books placed on shelves are on the sides. Above is the symbol of the Medici family that owned Palazzo Madama situated in front of the small fountain. The water pours out of two bookmark-shaped taps and from two more taps inserted within circular panels. The ancient books remember the ancient University della Sapienza. In fact the small fountain is placed on the side wall of Palazzo della Sapienza, where today the State Archive resides. The name of the district and its reference number are sculpted at the centre of the fountain. However the reference number is mistaken, because Sant’Eustachio corresponds to the VIII (eighth) district, while the number on the fountain is IV (fourth).

Dovrei ricominciare a leggere
ma il tempo è poco. O forse
aveva occhi bocca mani pancia
si fermava sorridente a Firenze
da Milano, sbuffava,ripartiva.
A Napoli sotto un gran Vesuvio
lo aspettava un piatto di spaghetti
arrotolati rossi fumiganti.
Ne avevo pena come di ogni cosa
che mi è cara, nemmeno più sfogliavo
negli anni le sue pagine.
Da un secolo è sparito
perduto in chissà quale dei traslochi.
La sua faccia mi ricorda qualcuno
che avrei sempre voluto conoscere.

Recent uploads that referenced renowned railroad photographer O. Winston Link (1914-2001) prompted me to pick this volume of his finest 1950s photographs, which has been a treasured possession since May 1991. His fame centres on a remarkable collection of mainly nocturnal photographs of the final days of steam on the Norfolk & Western Railroad - views that are significant pieces of social history as well as depictions of a form of transportation that was about to disappear.
