I frequently, for lack of a better word, get "accused" of being in publications that I have never been in. This is image is the one I am frequently been told was there favorite National Geographic cover. I have always wanted to be a National Geographic photographer....

Again the story behind the image is different than the image portrays. I was at a used camel lot (I'm not making that up) photographing camels. I saw this man I looked at him, held my camera up which is the universal sign for "can I take a picture of you?" he waved is hand in a "no" gesture. As I turned away a large male camel and I were face to face. The Male camel was in "ready to rut" mode and proceeded to slime me with the foulest smelling slime/goo/slobber/goo I have had the misfortune to ever smell. Let alone be coated with. Apparently female camels find this 'scent" attractive. This was the Bedouin who had just turned me down for a photograph's camel who has now just confused me for a girl camel.e rushes over shoos the horny beast away and looks at me now covered in camel goo, which is dripping off my nose, glasses, camera. Trying to stifle a laugh, he gives me a nod that is now "ok" to take his picture. This is tat picture. I had to be hosed down from head to toe before I could get back on the bus.

This image was captured during my American Photo Mentor Trek workshop to Egypt. with a Nikon D2x camera at 200iso with a 70-210 mm VR II lens using the Nikon electronic file format (.Nef) Shot on Lexar 16 gigabyte Flash media.

File was post processed using capture NX software. All additional post work was done in Photoshop CC using Nik Collection by DxO Color Efex Pro plugins.

Final file is stored and scaled using Perfect Resize (Genuine Fractals.)

This is from my most recent trip to Myanmar. Just before the pandemic ended my travel plans for awhile... I traveled 36 hours of flying (not including layovers) then 16 hours by 4 wheel drive to travel 58 miles in to the mountains of Nagaland to attend the New Years festival. This image was captured whilst standing in the shade of one hut watching the man in the other hut watching what all the commotion was from the visitors that drove two hour drive by 4 wheel drive to see his hut.

From the "I taught my first time out Backyard Fine Art Class via Zoom" collection. A four camera Zoom shoot done as a one man band. Up at 5am every morning. Nine different setups, Focus shift capture (which this is) using the 105mm.f2.8 S Micor Nikkor. If Forrest Gump owned this lens he say "IF Jenny was a lens she' be this lens". Holy tack sharp glass batman!

But what a blast I had!! What a bunch to troopers the class was talk about commitment!

I can't wait to teach this class again (the up at BMNT I could do without) but watching the students get it was something I live for.

SERVER TRAVELING : The Fine Art of Time Travel

This is a misplaced image. It was processed to be worked on. But wound up in a folder labeled FLOWERS_MAYBE_2_DO. I do remember freezing my ass off being rained on and it was one those rare moments at tunnel view where no one was there because they were shiner than I was. There was a brief moment of a break in the clouds. the sun hit the water fall and then the water really fell from the sky. I was complaining to my self at the the time. I can promise you I will never complain again . I sooooo look forward to being able to be somewhere else as I am sure we all do than the post stamp of a piece of land that is my current lil'slice of heaven.

From my most recent (hopefully not my last) trip to Cuba

I was just walking down the street and being taken by a one moment of another beings life, when a little boy was playing hide and seek and zipped around the corner to see if he was being followed. He did not see me because he thought I was too busy seeing something else. He took me alrifgt. I slowed down to the peed of life and let him hide in my camera where he took the shot by taking me.

Another infrared image from my latest trip to Cuba working on my Cuba: Turning the Last Page of 1962 book project . This image was shot with a Nikon Z7 modified by lifepixel.com to shoot infrared and the the 24-120mm with the FTZ adaptor. This other corner of the street where I stayed for this trip. I was on my way to caffeinate and I almost was a hood ornament. Once again proving I shoot before I look.

I taught my first time out Backyard Fine Art Class via Zoom. A four camera Zoom shoot done as a one man band. Up at 5am every morning. Nine different setups, near focus (which this is) using the 105mm. f1.4 Nikkor.

We also did Macro with the new 105mm 2.8 S series lens (WHAT PIECE OF GLASS THAT IS) extension tube shooting using promaste extension tubes with 85mm 1.8. S series lens as well as the 105mm macro and then with a Novoflex Mini II bellows for the Nikon Z camera and then using heliopan Clusuplenses with the 70-200mm 2.8 S series lens.

But what a blast I had!! What a bunch to troopers the class was talk about commitment!

This is the image in which the class partcipated in setting up, and saw through from set up to full compleation.

Another thing the dress rehearsal for the Zombie Apocalypse has afforded me is a world where there was no traffic in the middle of the day in Los Angeles. This is a view that you only really get to see but really cannot photograph. The reason is I am in the middle of one of the really busy cross roads with a tripod. Three cars in a half hour. I shot this on my birthday, I have been looking at this view for a really, really, really really, long time. I have tried to shoot this image for a really, really, really really, long time. IR Z7, 80-400mm Nikkor, FTZ adaptor.

This from my most recent trip to Myanmar. Soooo.... I am now back in Yangon after my journey to the outskirts of the absolute middle of nowhere. I have a hardfast rule....I NEVER GIVE MONEY TO ANYONE. The reason is to do this was I was told early on by one of my "fixers" that doing this is to help create a society of beggars. Give food, shampoo, soap, paper, pencils toothbrush yes. Cash nope (unless it's a school) The only exception is when I cross paths with a Buddhist Monk or Nun, Their journey is one of pray and living off the kindness of strangers. Got no problem with that. Before I gave this young Nun I gave this nun anything she looked at me and gave me this smile.

Sooooo the dress rehearsal for thew Zombie Apocalypse that we now find ourselves in has afford me a lot of time to dress the metric butt ton of this that I have put off because I am oh so busy in my mind... Most pressing is addressing the inside of my stdio that was ravaged by floods and repairs. Well that is mostly done. (I lost a lot of stuff as I discovered.) In any event I have got to the point to calibrate the system and fire up all the printers. 8 printers, 5 monitors, two projectors and three store systems later this after shoveling the crap out o f the studio and starting the reorg I reached my pain threshold. So what better excuse than to look and see what is on old hard drives...right?

I shot this 10 years ago. I have this self project with NYC. My father was from NYC and when I was a kid he would tell me stories about growing up there during the Great Depression and the 40's, 50's and 60's. My self project was to ty and find the images that showed the echo of those stories to give him. He past away many years ago but I still keep creating images fit let's me remember him.

Sooo..... From my "Flowers Don't Talk Back" series

Whilst I have been teach for Maine Media Workshops last week with my co-conspiritor Mickey Strand, I have been working on our next class Backyad Fine Rt: IT is a small World After All. A class I have been threatening to do for the past 6 years.

What makes it a much more viable class is something that cameras now have the ability to automate- focus stacking. In the Nikon world it is referred to as "Focus Shift" you can set the camera up to to doubt 300 shots or "slices" of focus.

An unforeseen benefit is you can also do multiple aperture images. Like f2.8, f8 and f 16. What I have been working on is to come up with a set of best practices and considerations to avoid image face planting.

Next round will be with the new NX Studio downloadcenter.nikonimglib.com/en/products/564/NX_Studio..... I am hoping that this floor to ceiling upgrade will make the process even faster and easier.

This is image was used for the Japanese translation of my third book "From Oz to Kansas". The master file was corrupted so I had o go back and rework it. Sooo here is the new and improved not corrupted version. When working on my last project for Epson when the head design and printer driver engineers came over from Japan they had a copy Oz 2 Kansas, with notes and questions and post it tabs. I have that book in my studio, It's cool to know that some of my chromatic grayscale conversion theory influenced a decision or two.

This is from my latest trip to Cuba. I admit it I am a cat lady. I shot this with thew 50mm 1.8 S series lens. A lens that truly blew me away. To be honest I have alway viewed a 50mm lens as an optical lens cap. I have learned the error of my ways. This is a breathtaking star lens with beautiful bokeh.

This from my most recent trip to Myanmar. Soooo.... I m now back in Yangon after my journey to the outskirts of the absolute middle of nowhere.

So about this image- I have a hardfast rule.... I NEVER GIVE MONEY TO ANYONE. The reason is, to do this, as was I was told early on by one of my "fixers" is that by doing this all you do is to help create a society of beggars.

So give food, give shampoo, give soap, give paper, give pencils, give toothbrush yes. Cash? Nope (unless it's to a school then absolutely) My only exception is when I cross paths with a Buddhist Monk or Nun, Their journey is one of prayer and living off the kindness of strangers. Got no problem with that. So I gave these baby nuns (maybe 5000 Kyat. (about 3 dollars US) They didn't believe how much wealth they had to give the nunnery.

I have a very large folder of "TO_DO" images spanning all the years I have been shooting.

Boxers and dancers are an incredible fascination of mine in that the both train at the same intensity and passion. Both require a fluidity of motion that is beautiful to watch.

As you know I am fascinated with bokeh and the combination in focus to blur.

Shot with a Nikon Z7 and the 85mm S series lens at f 1.8. Raw file converted in Capture NX=D then post processed in Photoshop CC using Nik Collection by DxO Colorefex and Sharpener Pro plug-ins.

This image "If I were a Raindrop" and "Paris in Snow" are probably my most iconic images. I shot this image during my San Francisco Presidio project. I had been cooped up during two week rainstorm. This was the firs moment of not raining. I literally tripped over a tree root and shot this whist falling into the mud.

I thought that the raw file for this image was lost to me for forever.... Had a hard drive go tits up, back before I knew about backing everything up and back before I could afford a lotta hard rives. I came across it being misfiled in another image's folder whilst going through my file spring cleaning of my 48TB server. Trust me it is a mind numbing eye crossing endeavor. I have always wanted to redo this image. Bu all I ever had was on copy of it as a flattened tif done with the knowledge base of 18 years ago (back when I knew considerably more than I now know I know today) The reason I am beside myself reliving the glory days of yore is Epson Legacy Etching paper and the P9000's new inset. The problem is the file I had was unprintable because of the quality of the paper and printer head and gamut of the ink. I simply did not have enough data. I spent three days on this file from RAW to final print file to get it the way I have always believed it should truly look. It will replace the one I currently have (44x36) hanging over my bed in my bedroom. The colors I was able to pull from the file using picture control in NXD as well as having a much better understanding of how things work.... I would recommend that every one revisit some of the old chestnuts of one's career and take the file out for a spin

DANCERS!!!

I love photographing dancers, especially Cuban Ballet Dancers.This is from my latest trip to Cuba. We were on our way back from shooting dancers leaping in the street and the lights was right, the background screamed 105mm f 1.4 and the lovely MariKarla Laguna was hanging out in the shade. It amazes me what passing clouds can do tho change the light.

The Z system is simply best of class. The quality of the file and the perfection of the color coupled with the new lenses sharpness, just a joy to shoot. Enough with the commercial...

I have walked down this street over the past 10 years, I average 10 to 12 miles day (thank god for the healthcares program on my iPhone I suppose) I look up and around

then I was taken.

I try to create images that put the viewer in the same place the moment I was taken by the moment.

An interesting plainness, which is the most difficult thing to achieve.
