FYI: barkada = Filipino for "circle of friends"
Me with 6 of my closest friends (but mind you, they're not ALL of my closest friends!) From left to right:
Noah - my once-roommate, tolerated me for being a prissy jackass for a whole year! A fan of my cooking (heh)
Dottie - levelheaded when I am crazy and vice-versa. I claim responsibility for advancing the cause of her and her fiancé. (just kidding)
Me - cut back on the desserts, bitch!
Vany - one of my partners in the realm of TV obsession. Confessed serial gossip, serial worry-wart.
Anton - longest-known friend (more than half my life-- I'm about 26 as of this writing). Knows more about me than I was willing to let on and hey, we're still friends, haha.
Krista - fellow pop culture fiend and fast talker, can count on for a hug.
JC - constant target of my snipings, for which I will be eternally grateful. Fellow dork.
I'm not yet too much of a complete hardass to admit that they care about me to bits.
(I got tagged, but if I tagged you, you are not beholden by the gods of the interwebs to do the meme yourself.)
I have only been customising dolls for about a year. It grew out of my geeky love of Star Trek, which had lain dormant for years until the new film came out. Most folks who know me know me mainly through my fan fiction, and the convention circuit.
I sketched CONSTANTLY as a kid, but mainly to draw the characters in the fanfic I started writing around age 11. I studied fine art at uni, then switched my second year to English and never looked back. But sometimes, I really do miss drawing. All of my art these days is done using computers, and mainly photomanipulation.
Despite having co-edited a book about Doctor Who, I have never seen all the episodes of the original series. I kinda sorta suck that way. I have, however, seen all 11 Doctors, albeit some of them in specials like The Five Doctors.
I am and have always been a complete junkie for fiction. Comics, tv series, novels, films, plays, you name it. However I draw the line at musicals. I grew up with a distinct lack of musical theatre, so I can take it or leave it. That said, I really enjoyed seeing Sondhiem's Into the Woods and Sweeney Todd (the first on PBS, the second live at the Chicago Lyric Opera).
As a kid, tho I was a rabid Jem fan, I never had any of the dolls. And despite working on the JemCon staff for two years, i still only have one doll--a Stormer that has now seen better days due to constant redressing.
I have dual citizenship.
I am allergic to cats. Also, as you can see from the above, I have a lazy eye. It drives me mad when it comes to taking decent photos.
I've lived almost my entire life in Chicago, but for five years in my late teens/early twenties when I lived in madrid Spain, Champaign-urbana, Albuquerque NM, and Columbia, SC. But I am a Chicago girl deep in my soul.
I do not have a driving licence, and do not know how to drive.
I have a very muddled accent.
The first doll I remember having as a child was a Meego Wonder Woman. her costume was painted on, and she had a Navy yeoman's dress blues to wear over it. I think I had two of them, having lost or broken the first one.
The last doll I remember buying as a child was Sweet Roses PJ, with my pocket money. I took her with me when I went babysitting, and never got her back from the kids I was looking after. I've bought two different NRFB SRPJs, but never found one with the colouring I remember the doll having, partly due to age and the vinyl yellowing, and partly because I think the one I had was a variant as it was from 1986 or so.
I have a stuffed polar bear named Pookie on my bed, whom I have had since I was 9 years old. I still sleep with the bear, when things get tough.
I have one sister (younger) and no brothers.
I read DC Comics from 1984 to 1994, and still have all my comics in boxes. I wasn't a collector--they aren't hermitically sealed in a vault, and in fact, some of them have been read so many times they're falling to bits. My favourite character to this day is Amanda Waller, from John Ostrander and Kim Yale's Suicide Squad.
I worked for years as a journalist, and interviewed a lot of folks, but my favourite interview to this day was done over email with a TV writer I hadn't met face-to-face at the time, but who is now years later one of my best friends.
I'm not as tall as you think I am. I just wear tall shoes.
I've been a graphic designer for fifteen years, and some nights as I lay in bed trying to fall asleep, I'll convert flat layouts into CSS in my head. Because I'm kinda insane that way.
The first time I saw "The Cage", I fast forwarded through a lot of it. I was 14. Now I know just about every word of dialogue by heart, and can't believe it took me this long to fall insanely in love with Chris Pike and Number One.
The first movie I remember seeing in theatres was Superman.
The last movie I saw in theatres was The Losers.
The first actor I ever wrote fanmail to was Chris Barnes who played Scott Hayden on Starman. He wrote me back. I had a crush on him that lasted for YEARS.
My favourite thing to do in Los Angeles is the WB Studio Tour. I try and do it every time I am out there. I have the backlot pretty much memorised.
My favourite animated movie of all time is The Iron Giant. My favourite live-action movie of all time is Gosford Park. But the movie I've seen the most times is probably The Court Jester, and I have seen almost every picture Danny Kaye ever made.
I actually spent an hour the other night, trying to think of a Castle plot which would conceivably involve custom dolls of Beckett and Rick, and started surfing themanbehindthedoll to try and find a Ken sculpt that looked reasonably like Nathan Fillion. Weirdly, Beckett was easy: Diva/Midge.
Despite dealing with all sorts of famous folks in my various activities as a journalist and at conventions, and remaining entirely levelheaded and professional, I can still be reduced to a blushing, gibbering, stammering wreck when confronted with Kai Owens, all because I actually kinda fancy Rhys like mad.
Suspended Animation Classic #712 First published August 18, 2002 (#33) (Dates are approximate)
Dungeon; The Stuff of Dreams By Michael Vance
Bedecked with skulls and wielding a gigantic pike, Marvin is a principal guardian of a huge castle of monsters. Ababakar Octoflea is the fearless barbarian sent on a mission to thwart disaster.
Marvin is an alligator. Ababakar is a duck. Dungeon #1 from NBM Publishing ($2.95, 23 pages) is a first class piece of comic book fantasy.
Dungeon is a great deal like Groo The Wanderer, except that it isn't. Both are drawn in a style close to a doodle, but Dungeon is a bit more detailed and imaginative in the depiction of its monsters. Both parody the barbarian sub genre made famous by Robert E. Howard's Conan, the Barbarian. But Dungeon is also a parody of the entire genre of heroic fantasy. Both titles are also well written, but Dungeon lacks the formulistic plots that weaken Groo.
The strength of both series lies in characterization. The characters as written by Lewis Trondeim and drawn by Joann Star in this title are fully fleshed out and intriguing, often playing visual stereotypes against character traits that are very human.
A visual eyesore in the tradition of fantasy monsters, Marvin the alligator is levelheaded, slow to anger, dependable, and heroic. The gigantic quest initiated by Marvin's master will surely meet with success only by the hand, er, claw of Marvin.
The hero apparent of Dungeon, however, is a lying, sniveling coward of a duck thrown into this adventure by his own deceit and ineptness.
And, ah, what a thrilling adventure with swords, sorcerers, hooded threats and peril behind every stone. Bizarre creatures and talking belt-buckles. Is it any wonder that Dungeon is highly recommended for readers who love fantasy?
MINIVIEW: The Stuff of Dreams [Fantagraphics]. Waldo is back! This nihilistic, hedonistic homage to comics’ cats Krazy and Felix turns a trip to a flea market into a wild dream of island shipwreck peppered with profanity, nudity, and blasphemy. Well drawn.

Lord MacGuffin is a character in 2012 Pixar animated feature film Brave.
MacGuffin is the more levelheaded of the three lords by comparison. Nonetheless, he does easily give in to childish brawls and petty competitions.

was born September 5, 1920. He died May 16, 2008, and his funeral was May 23, 2008. He was 87.
I'm not, like, overly depressed or sad about it, mostly because I knew it was coming sooner rather than later. I mean, he had been sick since I was like twelve. After two stints in rehabilitation centers (after strokes, complications, and the lot) and after being essentially bedridden since around mid-2007, I knew it was only a matter of time before he just said "eff it" and went into the light.
Even as death had his number on speeddial, he did not compromise his values, persona or anything like that. He was still an honorable, kindhearted (albeit stubborn at times), joking (some of which were rather raunchy), levelheaded, pretty chill man that got to go out on his own accord. He wanted to die in his own home, not some government-operated piece of crap that only speeds up the process because they need the bed for someone else (in other words, a nursing home).
I was still up College Park when it happened. My father, basically, forced my mom to keep it from me until I got back home from finals, et al. Good strategy, because with my own medical conditions, having a dead daddy on the side? Eh...not good. Obviously, when I found out on the 21th (after I came back home), I was irate, as most people would be. And, I was a bit sad, especially when my mom pulls out these two boxes full of my father's army medals, Masonic pendants and all that type of stuff. But, I was honored that he left all of it to me. I mean, he could have went decked-the-eff-out to see St. Peter and Jesus, but my father was on that whole "can't take it with you" tip, which makes so much sense.
...Well, I'mma stop gushing about my daddy and get back to being the cynic that most of you know me as.
[By the way, the photo in this picture, it was taken of my father when he was about 21-22 years old]

Crane Topples In Sechelt. Photo Duane Burnett. Compiled by Linda White France.
MORE PHOTOS in the "Crane Topples" photo set.
Last Friday afternoon, the RCMP
was called to a major construction
accident that occurred on Inlet Avenue
at the Midtown project. A large industrial
crane tipped over on its side while
the operator attempted to lift a large
section of the condominium into place.
The complex has been built in modules
offsite and then each section has
been installed using the crane. Of the
incident, Project Manager of Sunshine
Coast Property Development, Chris
Moore said, “We had lifted 18 of the
modules to date at Midtown and were
working on the last two. While we need
to wait until the official report comes in,
my understanding is that a gust of wind
caused the crane to tip over.” As a result,
the RCMP report states, “The crane, its
arm and the cargo crashed down onto
the new complex and a neighbouring
business.”
Moore said he was thankful that no
one was injured. He added, “The safety
and well being of the people on and
near the site is our first priority. There
were seven people on site, all of them
well trained.” According to Moore, staff had taken the proper safety precautions,
which he says is always a priority on
their work sites. He said that it was because
of staff’s training and levelheaded
reaction that the damage was contained
and that no one was injured. “There was
some damage to Midtown and we are
working with the Splash ‘n Shine Car
Wash, which was also damaged in this
incident. We feel blessed that no one
was hurt and we are doing our best to
assess and repair the damage and have
things safely back up and running as
soon as possible.”
SC Property Development was to
meet with representatives of the WCB
who will conduct an investigation into
the accident. The financial amount of
the damage is yet to be determined. Site clean up was started on Saturday.

patti: super level headed, strategist
charles: loyal, no one gets left behind
braedyn: super brave, small and fast, weapons expert

Who’s that with you? I saw him a few times in the Bleeding Horse in Camden street with Boylan, the billsticker. You might put in a good word for us to get me taken on there. I’d carry a sandwichboard only the girl in the office told me they’re full up for the next three weeks, man. God, you’ve to book ahead, man, you’d think it was for the Carl Rosa. I don’t give a shite anyway so long as I get a job, even as a crossing sweeper.
Subsequently being not quite so down in the mouth after the two and six he got he informed Stephen about a fellow by the name of Bags Comisky that he said Stephen knew well out of Fullam’s, the shipchandler’s, bookkeeper there that used to be often round in Nagle’s back with O’Mara and a little chap with a stutter the name of Tighe. Anyhow he was lagged the night before last and fined ten bob for a drunk and disorderly and refusing to go with the constable.
Mr Bloom in the meanwhile kept dodging about in the vicinity of the cobblestones near the brazier of coke in front of the corporation watchman’s sentrybox who evidently a glutton for work, it struck him, was having a quiet forty winks for all intents and purposes on his own private account while Dublin slept. He threw an odd eye at the same time now and then at Stephen’s anything but immaculately attired interlocutor as if he had seen that nobleman somewhere or other though where he was not in a position to truthfully state nor had he the remotest idea when. Being a levelheaded individual who could give points to not a few in point of shrewd observation he also remarked on his very dilapidated hat and slouchy wearing apparel generally testifying to a chronic impecuniosity.

Western astrology vs vedic astrology is an exceptional resource for survey the likely prospects of our lives. Western astrology saying is generally new when contrasted with Vedic astrology, as the last has been polished since millennia, having composed archives in the Vedas also. The significant distinction among Vedic and Western astrology is that one uses the fixed zodiac while different utilizations versatile zodiac to choose the beginning stage of the zodiac. Western astrology the tropical Zodiac, which believes earth to be the middle and the heavenly bodies to rotate around it. It depends on the possibility that the Sun returns to a similar mark of vernal equinox post culmination of its circle around earth (as it shows up from earth). Vernal equinox is the divine occasion during which the Sun is overhead the equator (the line that separates the earth into halves). The vernal equinox is by and large on Walk 22 every year when day and night are of equivalent length. As per Western astrology, that is the point in time that directs the primary sign, Aries, further followed by the remainder of the signs. Be that as it may, concerning the fixed stars, vernal equinox moves toward the west inverse to the yearly movement of Sun at a pace of around 50.26 seconds of circular segment every year which is likewise called precession of the equinoxes or ayanamsa. This is on the grounds that world's hub likewise pivots and finishes one revolution in around 26000 years. Vedic astrology likewise considers this slight move in earth's position, which has moved the vernal equinox point of sidereal zodiac to around 25 degrees west from the 0 degrees vernal equinox of western framework. Rather than tropical year, Ved shastra depends on Sidereal year which is the time taken by earth to rotate around Sun as for the fixed star Chitra, and this length is clearly 20 minutes longer than the tropical year.Because of this wonder, the Aries of Western astrology wards floating off farther from the Aries point of Vedic astrology at a pace of 1 degree at regular intervals. As of now, this distinction has raised to right around 24 degrees in recent years. The last time when Aries of Western Soothsaying and Vedic astrology were on a similar plane was roughly 285 Advertisement. The arrangement of Crystal gazing that utilizes the fixed zodiac is called Sayana, while the one that utilizes versatile zodiac is called Nirayana. Since the planetary developments move, the Universe extends, and nothing is still, Vedic Soothsaying is accepted to be more levelheaded and dependable. The signs and planets for the most part have comparative translation and emblematic implications in both the frameworks however Vedic astrology has more precise computations and itemized strategies included, along these lines more solid. When contrasted with western framework, Vedic astrology saying appears to be upstanding on the grounds that it depends on more precise galactic standards. It will be kept in see that planets are moving in the sky according to the Nirayana framework. Vedic astrology evaluate the natal diagram as well as the dasas, the times of various planets traveling through various signs and their impact continuously. Likewise, Vedic astrology depends on Moon give up Sun sign. Sun changes its sign in around a month while Moon changes its sign in 2.25 days, which is the reason predications dependent on Moon are all the more close and exact since our mind-sets and conditions change much of the time. Furthermore, moon mirrors the psyche and feelings, our personality, in this way deciphering moon's situation prompts more important expectations and examination. Vedic astrology, subsequently is outfitted with more exact and meticulous apparatuses and techniques for forecasts than western astrology, in this way more dependable. www.myastron.com/western-astrology.html
My Dad. Always thoughtful, happy to give any advice he has, levelheaded enough to keep certain people (he knows who we are *grin*) from getting into political screaming matches, cool enough to remember that I was a fan of Nine Inch Nails in high school, computer-savvy, a Family Rock (living up to his name), and a DAMN good cook.
Among other things.
Thanks, Dad. Love you... *smile*

It's been almost ten years since I first read . I have listened to the audiobook several times, as well. (Julia Whelan's narration is flawless!)

Ahh, Abigail (Elizabeth) and Brooks. Those two...they just hit my happy buttons. I wrote a really gushy review back in 2012. If you're interested, you can find it here: www.valeehill.net/2012/04/book-review-witness-by-nora-rob....
⠀
This book has fascinating plot lines involving Elizabeth's restrictive childhood, her act of rebellion and its repercussions, her character's evolution, character introductions, and character interaction. The dynamic between uptight genius Abigail and levelheaded Brooks is the perfect coupling. The delicious banter that ensues is captivatingly clever! The Witness is an all-around exceptional romantic suspense and is one of my top twenty-one all-time favorite romance reads!
