Italy | Tuscany | Monteriggioni | Monteriggioni is a small, walled medieval village in the Province of Siena, famous for its well-preserved circular walls and 14 towers. It was built by the Sienese in the 13th century as a defensive fortress against Florence (Firenze). It sits on a hilltop overlooking the Via Cassia and is known for its historic architecture, charming central piazza, and easy accessibility for motorists who want to stop and check it out when driving between Siena and Florence. It has a nice little hotel and restaurant facing the piazza. For me, it has served as a base for exploration during many trips to Tuscany through the years. Photo archives, adapted.
