The Lesser Violetear used to be part of a species called the Green Violetear before being split in 2016. A few of them came to the feeders at Quetzal's Paradise in the highlands.

We had a fairly substantial flock in the garden all this winter (about 15-20 birds) but unfortunately they've all disappeared now for the spring. First time I've ever seen them - my parents thought they were juvenile goldfinches at first!

Most of my views of Lesser Redpolls lately have been brief flybys, so it was nice to see this vibrant one alongside another feeding on alder cones near the Bucks/Beds border earlier today. It also had a ring on its right leg, unfortunately a little too far away for noting any of the details.
