Oso Flaco Lake, Guadalupe, CA, USA

At least I think it's a Lesser Grebe. I'm a little worried about him. He's been in the same area for 3 days now while everyone else seems to have moved on.

Thank you for visiting my site and taking the time to leave a comment. Truly appreciated!

Just back from an awesome trip to the Lesser Rann of Kutch. Watch this space...

Wikipedia: The lesser yellowlegs (Tringa flavipes) is a medium-sized shorebird. They migrate to the Gulf coast of the United States, the Caribbean, and south to South America. This species is a regular vagrant to western Europe; in Great Britain about five birds arrive each year, mostly between August and October, with the occasional individual overwintering.

Conservation status: Least Concern

Nice to see a pair of Lesser Redpolls visit the garden earlier this week, the first I have seen since we have lived here. They were feeding on the Verbena Bonariensis seed heads which we fortunately have not cut back yet. May leave them a few more weeks.

Wikipedia: The lesser mouse-deer, lesser Malay chevrotain, or kanchil (Tragulus kanchil) is a species of even-toed ungulate in the family Tragulidae. The lesser mouse-deer is found widely across Southeast Asia in Indochina, Burma (Kra Isthmus), Brunei, Cambodia, China (Southern Yunnan), Indonesia (Kalimantan, Sumatra and many other small islands), Laos, Malaysia (Peninsular Malaysia, Sarawak and many other small islands), Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. It is the smallest known hoofed mammal, its mature size being as little as 45 cm (18 inches) and 2 kg (4.4 lb). It is threatened by predation by feral dogs.

Lesser Yellowlegs - Tringa flavipes - walking along mudflats.

It is always fun to photograph these handsome shorebirds while rolling in the mud to get the low angle shot. Out of the two, I'm just not sure what makes me more happy though ;)

This Lesser Yellow Legs has been at Lodmoor Nature reserve for about 5 months now, Yesterday as I walked back, it was incredibly close

I normally would have kept this deep in the archives. It's almost too "colorful." But when I see a Lesser Goldfinch this colorful, whether because of reflection from leaves or sun and usually much less yellow than the American, I keep it. I can't remember the name of the tree, but the fruit, which starts out as round yellow balls, is a favorite of the finches once they're a but fermented. It's a small window: they will not eat the fully fermented fruit, so there's no danger of another species drunk this time of year.

This petite species is not only the smallest North American Spinus finch, it may be the smallest true finch in the world. It is a small songbird that, in 20 years I have never heard sing!

The Lesser Adjutant Stork ( Leptoptilos javanicus ) is widely distributed around Asia and feeds mostly on fish.

The first time we have ever had a Redpoll visit us in the garden, has been feeding on the sunflower hearts for 2 days now. Their breeding population has declined and they're much less common than they once were. Lesser redpolls breed in woodland, but also visit gardens. They can be seen dangling from tiny twigs in birch and alder trees, or perhaps on shrub stems.

'FINE DINING.'

The Lesser Yellowlegs found rich pickings in water margin scum at the base of a steep mud bank. It worked its way backwards and forwards along the entire length, for quite some time.
