Thank you for your visit and comments. They are very much appreciated.
Paid a visit to Reifel to see if I could get any fight or flight shots, but everyone was well behaved and not wanting to fly anywhere soon. A very stiff breeze out on the water and very chilly. It may be spring, but still very cold. Even so, the birds are starting to hook up. Nesting season will soon happen and I am looking forward to seeing all the little fluff balls again this year.
Lesser yellowlegs migrate northwards from February to May and migrate southwards between June and October. In spring they migrate through both interior and coastal areas, especially interior United States, but in fall they migrate only along coasts. Females and individuals who weren't successful breeding begin migrating first, followed by males and then juveniles. They fly in small, mixed flocks of 3 to more than 50 and have been observed migrating during the day and at night. They also forage at night and during the day.
Lesser Yellowlegs / tringa flavipes. Frampton, Lincolnshire. 23/03/24. * Day 187
A lot of birds suddenly taking to the wing had grabbed the Lesser Yellowleg's attention for a second or two. However, it held its nerve and remained in the shallow pool. I loved the alert, upright posture shown here.
BEST VIEWED LARGE.
The Lesser Goldfinches visit my feeders regularly but rarely give me a shot that's in harmony with the environment like this male at the Los Angeles Arboretum.
After a lot of wind and rain overnight the morning was clear and a little cool. Mill Lake was a little thin on waterfowl and songbirds but I did see a few.

On Mill Lake there are a few Lesser Scaup. The days that have white skies I find a challenge to get good photos. I do not understand how I got this!

A bit distant and taken into the sun so a bit rubbish, but still a stonking bird to photograph.
At Lisvane & Llanishen Reservoirs. This place is gaining celebrity status lately after attracting many rarities in recent months.
The first accepted record of this rare visitor from North America was only in the 1980s. Most arrive in winter but several individuals have stayed on beyond this.
