Leo (Border Collie/Gordon Setter mix) and his owners visited us today, and I finally got to capture some nice photos of him - an easy task.

My album of dogs here.

It's been a while since I took an image of this beautiful galaxy group, and given my new processing skills I thought I'd revisit them. This is two nights' worth of data (4 hours total).

The Leo Triplet is a captivating group of three interacting spiral galaxies located approximately 35 million light-years away in the constellation Leo. It consists of Messier 65 (M65), Messier 66 (M66), and NGC 3628 (often called the "Hamburger Galaxy"). These galaxies are gravitationally influencing each other, which is evident in the slightly distorted spiral arms of M66 and the warped disk and prominent tidal tail of NGC 3628. Despite their close proximity and ongoing interactions, all three can often be viewed within a single field of view through a telescope, making them a popular target for amateur astronomers.

Leo the Lion, where is your Lioness?

Aren't they impressed with your new clean coat?

Your roar?

Your new silver chain that bears your name?

You stalk the moths that play in the light of the night

The shadows on the wall catch your attention...oh, didn't I mention?

You're causing contention amongst the neighbors?

I'll wait on you hand and foot.

You'll guard my house, the couch is your perch.

Your love is conditional, upon the amount of food left in your bowl.

It's been awhile since I've been to the barn....i got a kick outta Leo greeting me at the fence with his frosty whiskers and steamy breath......

A first attempt at the well-known triangle of galaxies known as the Leo Triplet.

On the top, NGC3628 aka the Hamburger galaxy; below, M66 and M65.

I'm particularly pleased to have got 3 extra bonus galaxies in the frame: right up in the top-left the tiny fuzzy IC2782, with IC2776 just below and IC2763 in the middle of the left edge of the frame.

Nearly two hours' data, Altair 26C at gain 100 with Neodymium filter, 3-minute subs, and plenty darks+flats+bias calibrations as well.

Leo enjoys some of the last fresh catnip of the season.

Leo has lost his 4 companion kitties in the last 18 months. I found this article quite helpful.

Leo and his brother Ben were both happily eating biscuits, so I went and got my camera. Ben took one look at the camera and scarpered. And then Leo just sat there. He has had a tiring morning, as he's been bathed, dried with a hairdryer and then brushed, so at the moment he's a clean as clean, but it wont last. He's also had a play with a toy turtle filled with catnip.

He is Leo and in a week there will be two months since he is part of the family.

I don't know his certain age, perhaps around 8yo, and I only know about his past that he had a master who abandoned him, lived for a few years in Herastrau Park, was often chased by the dog catchers, then stayed for a while in the shelter of a clinic.

It's hard to talk about suffering and trauma, and it's natural to do good in silence, but I chose to talk a little about Leo because he was by far the most traumatized soul I've integrated into the pack in the last 25 years.

Recovery is not perfect and it will take a long time (haha, I hope to live it together, as we are both respectable ages) until it will be easier for him to forget that people are not very good, but every new day is a joy together.

Recently, he started running happily around the yard and felt at home, patrolling the perimeter and doing the evening tour with Leia and Spot.

It doesn't even have the harness anymore, thank heavens, we didn't hope to succeed too soon :)

Btw, Julius K9 harnesses are the most precious gift you can give to your dog.

Last but not least, I want to thank Dr. Aurelian from www.romaniaanimalrescue.org/animal-care?lang=ro, our veterinarian, who knew how to choose the perfect place for Leo, and my daughter Ada, who brought him HOME.

The Zodiac constellation of Leo - the relevant stars have been brightened a tad to make them more obvious.

The exposure of 15 seconds has resulted in slight star trails due to the rotation of the Earth.

This region is also the location of M105 - a galaxy with a supermassive black hole with the mass of 200 million suns. www.nasa.gov/feature/goddard/2017/messier-105

This session was first light of my new ASI2600MC Air camera / control system and my new mount. The real intent was to "kick the tires" to make sure all worked as intended. While simple enough, there was definitely a learning curve. That combined with bitter cold made it for a shorter session than I would have liked. But overall, I'm very pleased with my new rig and the results.

Leo Anthony was born in late November, after a precipitous birth (at least we did make it to the hospital!)

Here he is, on film, at five days old.

I'm already so in love.

Leo's in July

are fire signs

burning hot.

They have the

hearts of dragon's

Ears that capture

everything and

smoldering heat that

can die out or burn to hot

as the nights wear on.

The Leo emerges like the phoenix

from its own ash's and fire's back with

all the passion of the past and future alike.

Tame not the lion with the

dragon heart but tend to it,

least it rage uncontrollably.
