"You'd better stop this fight ! You ain't nothin' but a bum !"

In the Apollo temple built between 1761-1763 by Nicolas de Pigage. In the 18th-century people were already making nasty comments about Apollo's butt and because he's holding the lyra with his right hand and playing with the left hand. They liked to call him lefty, which has a double meaning in German, deceitful and lefthanded. Wilhelm Heinse (1746-1803) wrote to his friend Jakobi: "the lefty god has a miserable butt".

“These are days when no one should rely unduly on his competence. Strength lies in improvisation. All the decisive blows are struck left-handed.”
- Walter Benjamin
“Left-handers are wired into the artistic half of the brain, which makes them imaginative, creative, surprising, ambiguous, exasperating, stubborn, emotional, witty, obsessive, infuriating, delightful, original, but never, never, dull.”
- James T deKay and Sandy Huffaker from The World’s Greatest Left-Handers

August 13 is International Left-Handers Day. I was born left-handed, but I was made to use my other hand. Anyway, I still continue to use my left hand in daily life in spite of all attempts to retrain me. So, this is my Holiday, and I wish Happy Left-Handers Day to all lefties...!
Here is some information about this day:

At 1:08 PM today the Detroit Tigers face the Minnesota Twins in their 2015 home opener at Comerica Park.................................
On April 24, 1901, the Tigers prepared to take to the field for their first official American League game. A standing room only crowd was anticipated at Bennett Park, but unpredictable weather postponed the opening by a day.
On that historic afternoon, April 25, 1901, in front of 10,000 fans, the Tigers entered the ninth inning trailing Milwaukee, 13-4. A series of hits and miscues followed, moving the score to 13-12 with two runners on. With two out, Tiger Frank "Pop" Dillon faced reliever Bert Husting, and the lefthanded hitter rapped a two-run double to complete a 14-13 comeback win.
Having fun with my left hand drawings and Illustrator …

The Raccoon is the trickster, the sly and crafty one who may appear slow, but who is quick and agile; the opponent who outsmarts his enemies, and who uses his hands like a human. The Raccoon is the survivor, who lives alongside man as if to show him that he cannot truly conquer the land.

Very superstitious, writing's on the wall
Very superstitious, ladders bout' to fall
Thirteen month old baby, broke the lookin' glass
Seven years of bad luck, the good things in your past
When you believe in things that you don't understand
Then you suffer
Superstition ain't the way
Very superstitious, wash your face and hands
Rid me of the problem, do all that you can
Keep me in a daydream, keep me goin' strong
You don't wanna save me, sad is my song
When you believe in things that you don't understand
Then you suffer
Superstition ain't the way, yeh, yeh
Very superstitious, nothin' more to say
Very superstitious, the devil's on his way
Thirteen month old baby, broke the lookin' glass
Seven years of bad luck, good things in your past
When you believe in things that you don't understand
Then you suffer
Superstition ain't the way, no, no, no
This right here is proof that men are the Colossi of multitasking:
Holding a lens cap with 2 fingers,
with the remaining 3 clinging onto a stick that is being ripped out of my hand by 2 savage beasts,
with my right hand (lefthanded) holding a heavy camera with a decoupled shutter button - means focusing with a thumb and taking shots with the index finger and keeping it steady enough not to blur the action,
leaning backwards as far as I can to be able to focus on the eye (lens has a minimum focusing range) and not dropping the camera bag off the right shoulder or the dog leads off the left,
not forgetting to breath and not falling over.
You are damn right this is an amazing photo, you should by now be standing upright and clapping vigorously!
In the meantime I cleaned the lens of its fungus. quite easily actually

It's been two months since I last photographed the tango dancers in New York City at the beginning of Fourth of July weekend -- even though I know they've been gathering each Sunday down at the end of Pier 45, where Christopher Street runs into the Hudson River in the West Village. But I've been busy or out of town for most of July and August ... so the summer drifted away before there was a combination of free time and clear skies that enabled me to find a quiet perch out at the end of the pier on the weekend before Labor Day, to watch the dancers once again.
As I've pointed out in some previous Flickr albums (here, for example), I do not dance the tango (or any other civilized form of dance), and even after watching the dancers for over a year, I know almost nothing about the history, the folklore, or even the steps and rhythms of the tango. But after accidentally stumbling upon a local gathering of tango aficionados on a business trip to Washington in August 2009 (see my Flickr set Last tango in Washington), I discovered that there were similar informal events throughout New York City. When I got home, I searched on the Internet and found a schedule of upcoming tango events at several different NYC locations -- including Pier 45, where I made my first visit in mid-April of 2010, which led to this set of photos.
I returned in mid-July of 2010, even though I knew it would be much hotter ... and indeed, it was so hot that the music did not even begin until 6 PM. But then the dancers began to appear, one after another, until there were a couple dozen pairs of dancers filling a large space under a sheltering canopy, as the sun went down. And since it was the end of a hot summer evening, tango wasn't the only thing going on: there were people sunbathing, watching the boats on the river, playing frisbee, or simply enjoying themselves. I photographed a little of everything; you can see it in this Flickr set.
After that, I came back in August 2010 to watch the tango dancers in Riverside Park (also on the Hudson River, but up near 68th Street, which you can see here), and then back to Pier 45 in September (here) and October (here). There was even a tango party on Valentine's Day of 2011, at the Winter Garden building down near the site of the 9-11 tragedy; you can see that (here).
But the winter chill of Valentine's Day is now only a distant memory; springtime has now come and gone; and summer is almost over, with Labor Day approaching. But I also suspect the tango dancers will be here every Sunday throughout the fall, until it finally gets too cold and dark and rainy to continue dancing...
And if you'd like to watch some other examples NYC tango dancing, check out Richard Lipkin's Guide to Argentine Tango in New York City.

De bassist moest vaak checken welke akkoorden de gitarist speelde, omdat hij de last minute vervanger was van de ziek geworden, vaste bassist.
The bassist often had to check what chords the guitarist was playing, because he was a last minute replacement for the regular bassist, who got sick.

I love cooking and baking and because I walk and cycle everyday it gives me a perfect excuse to indulge in copious cups of tea or coffee and home baked delights. But, for a couple of weeks I can't use my right arm, surgery to my shoulder, so no cycling, agh! Walking is OK without my trusty back-pack but cooking has become a challenge! This is the cake I baked using my left hand only at midnight as I could not sleep due to my shoulder, all I can say is thank goodness for my huge mixing bowl and a hand held electric stick whisk. Cherry and apricot, apple almond cake and it is sooooooooo yummy and if anyone is interested.......
