This time we had a special mission: We wanted to explore an abandoned mental asylum which is still partly in use. After several years of vacancy, the area became an impenetrable jungle but the thicket was a perfect visual cover. So we were able to move unseen on the property. The over 12-hectare big compound consists of 20 buildings in total. By now all of them have become overgrown and in a lot of the houses are still furnishings left behind. But the site has a very dark history which we are revealing in this episode on YouTube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=HbXaupKf7Uo

I believe the hotel referrred to in the sign is the LaMinette. I did not notice if the sign was still up in 2009 when I was in the area.

Photo taken on the second day of a long weekend in Slovenia for the Ljubljana Sweet Swing Festival. The theme for today was mostly graffiti related having started with a visit to an old army barracks which is now nightclubs and squats.

Already half a century ago this church was abandoned by its parish. And so it has been looted by men and partly conquered by nature... The former glance can only be guessed. This brick building never got a real name, and so it is being called “Red Church” till today.

During our urbex road trip in Austria our local friends lead us to Clinic Moss. It should become the highlight of our journey. The power was still on. And there was running water, too. It’s astonishing to see an abandoned place in such pristine condition although the mailbox was opened the last time 15 years ago. You won’t find any vandalism here. The whole interior is very clean and the name “Clinic Moss” is actually misleading. At least when you’re exploring the main building. Because there’s a second part of the house which distinguishes itself very much from the first one.

take note of the murals: they are made of ceramic and were produced in Delft, Holland by the Joost Thooft & Labouchere Company. The design is a brilliantly colored series of ceramic murals and reliefs with gold square tiles, garlands, crests and seashells.

The are pictures of almost life sized children, doctors and nurses.

In our final Italy adventure we’re exploring one of the most unique abandoned places you can imagine. From the highway we were spotting two derelict planes which were apparently part of a once popular restaurant. Follow us while we’re revealing the history of the impressive compound. Here you can find a documentary about the place: youtu.be/HrAuTiFFzw8

It wasn't easy to access this former company headquarters of a big chemical company. But on this warm summer day, we somehow managed to infiltrate the property and dodge security. When entering the first of the many abandoned buildings on the premises, we got instantly rewarded with stunning decay! As it seems, in the past everything was left behind in the old labs. Since the whole site is contaminated, the structures are rotting away for 30 years now without any further plans of refurbishment. If you’re a fan of decay and street art, we promise, you will love today’s episode: www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtVWV-wH6Vc

In the course of documenting the decay of human civilization we came across this abandoned clothing factory. If we hadn’t seen the interior with our own eyes we wouldn’t have believed that something like this is even possible. Floor by floor we ascended this tremendous building. And we couldn’t stop being astonished. We already knew that this place is unique but what we discovered here exceeded our wildest expectations. It was like people simply forgot that this factory even existed.

Meanwhile it’s the tenth and final day of our big urbex road trip that we made in February. After several explorations in Luxembourg, France and Belgium we’re finally back in Germany where we spent the night on a tank graveyard. This former military training area is now a habitat for endangered flora and fauna. Until some years ago soldiers learned here how to capture these steel monstrosities - today nature is retaking control of the abandoned tanks.

The history of this boarding school actually already begins in the Middle Ages. One thousand years ago a castle was built on this hill somewhere in Italy. From the top you're able to overlook the whole area. It's said that the fortress rested here for 500 years until it was destroyed around 1550. Instead a monastery was constructed on the hill. But in the middle of the 19th century it had to make way for this college. For around 150 years children have been taught here. During this time several thousand students were educated in this facility. Back then the good reputation preceded the college. But today apparently only a small number of people remembers this site. Because meanwhile it was left to rot and the shine is lost.

As if we were exploring a ghost town. At least it felt like that when we were visiting a vast abandoned industrial area on day two of our urbex road trip in Austria. Once, this was one of the biggest gas works sites in the region. Today the compound fallows and nature is winning back what was once hers. We are one of the last people who will be able to see the site with their own eyes before there will be a massive change shortly.

Our Italy road trip was nearly over when we found ourselves somewhere in the mountains one evening. The roads up to this cluster of defunct radar dishes aren't really suited for driving anymore because there are massive potholes everywhere. However, somehow we made it to the top and got instantly rewarded with one of the most beautiful sunsets we have ever experienced.

Isolated and exposed, this forgotten military compound of the NATO is located on a 1.500 meters peak. Those four dishes were part of an enormous early warning system. In ten different EU countries those Troposcatter bases can be found. But in the end of the Cold War they all were abandoned.

After a delicious barbecue we hit the sack, just to wake up in a massive cloud the next morning. There was fog everywhere which created a unique mood!

All left alone after the Chornobyl disaster....

This is a whole village that was simply abandoned by its residents. This place has a moving history and once, it was even in possession of famous Napoleon Bonaparte. Later it was owned by an important Italian statesman who also had his country house here. But today everything lies in ruins. An apocalyptic atmosphere unfolds here which intensifies because of the intimidating cooling towers nearby. Already for decades people haven’t been living here anymore. And by now nature has reclaimed the area.

Left behind by the generations, this once-loved farmhouse is slowly succumbing to the march of time.

Another bit of little trash, by someone who was there.

Disturbing and bizarre - these are probably the best terms to describe the forgotten place in today's episode. We made several strange discoveries during our exploration of this isolated farm somewhere in Eastern Germany. Once, a wealthy family used to live here. And dog breeding was their big passion. The former owners were so successful that their dogs won many trophies in the past. But what happened here? Why was this stately home abandoned all of a sudden? Make sure to watch our documentary if you want to know what he have found out: www.youtube.com/watch?v=2D3q1X5TL88

Somewhere hidden in the Italian hills we discovered a three-floored house which used to be a catholic boarding school. Around 1930 this facility was built on top of the ruins of a former seminary. On the over 20.000 square meter big compound children were learning, playing and praying for 50 years. Until the college had to close down in 1984 due to a decreasing number of students...

If you look at a larger size of this picture, you can read this plaque on a small bridge close to the SWAN LAKE RESORT. It tells some history of the town. Ruins of the mill can be seen if you look down.

Took my Mom on a film shoot in an abandoned house. Afterwards took a few digital shots--this is my favorite.

This time we’re exploring an abandoned water bottling plant that we’ve discovered somewhere in Belgium. Until now we’ve explored many different kinds of industrial facilities that were left to rot but something like this was completely new to us: this is a bottling plant where everything was left behind. Even the collapsed roof and the unstable building structure couldn’t stop us from entering this place.
