Conceived from a class project offered through the faculty of Community + Culture at ECU during the 2011 winter semester in partnership with Pivot Legal Society, this exhibit features unique pieces in a range of media, which participants created as a direct result of their engagement with the topic of homelessness, and specifically with the Pivot Legal Society’s Red Tent Campaign. Emily Carr University of Art and Design students Avalon Mott and recent graduate Katrina Humphries make their curatorial debut with works created by students enrolled in Community Projects: The Red Tent Campaign at the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre.
The majority of artworks included in RIGHT were originally created to support the participants’ activist-style public interventions, which were conducted in and around the city of Vancouver, between February and April 2011. By holding these interventions, students hoped to raise awareness about the issue of homelessness, educate the public about Pivot and their Red Tent Campaign, and familiarize people with bill C-304, an act (which since the recent election has been temporarily removed from parliament) that would provide secure, affordable, accessible, and adequate housing for all.

We co-hosted an illuminating ‘Organic Learning Day’ day with Yeo Valley at Holt Farm in Somerset (spring 2014), designed to provide an enjoyable introduction to the principles of Organic.
Experts from the Soil Association and Yeo Valley shared up-to-date knowledge on what sets organic products apart, while an afternoon tour of the 500 hectare farm tour provided a valuable insight into organic farming in practice, as well as an opportunity to see the cows being milked!
Yeo Valley served up a delicious organic lunch, overlooking the stunning landscape, and afternoon tea and cake in their beautiful organic gardens.

Learning to tailor gives girls a chance not only to sew their own clothes, but to sew and make a small income for themselves and their families.
Studetns began their course by filling out a self evaluation of their learning skills (this rubric is the rubric their teacher will use to evaluate their learning skills at several points in the year). Any skill they did not give themselves an E for, gets highlighted. Students then choose from the highlighted skill descriptions the learning skill that they believe will affect their success most to set a goal for. (see zoom strip for learning skills)

Day 40/365: Learning
Another spot I wanted to photograph for this project was the ice skating park in Eau Claire. Today was the perfect day for it, since the park was full of people. I initially started out photographing a group of boys playing hockey, but when this little guy came out with his mom & dad I knew I needed to capture him. The fact that he couldn't take his eyes off of me sure did help. Watching him and his family was so heartwarming. Have you gone out ice skating this year?
