10/25/76 Day 33- Mount Guyot Lean-to. Trail through the snowy forest

Woke around 7:00 to find a beautiful winter landscape waiting for me. It had snowed about 4"-5" overnight, the wind was still and the sky was clearing. Trail was good and I made to Zealand Hut by 10:00. Stopped and had some coffee at 25 cents a cup and chatted with the caretaker couple. While I was there four couples who looked like complete novices came in and then a black kid who said he was camped nearby. Off I went with a steady uphill trail. Unfortunately all that beautiful snow was now melting and dripping off the trees. I met two guys hiking north and they warned me that the trail had sections of sheer ice covered rocks and they had each fallen a number of times. I continued on a little worried but I had no trouble, don't know what they were talking about maybe they should stick to summer hiking! Got to the summit of Goyot around 2:00 with no views then down the 1/2 mile to the lean-to. It was in a good location but messy. Had some nice views down the valley once and while but mostly overcast. Got dried off the best I could.

And yet, more geese in Milford. Surprise, surprise.

This is the inside of the hut I built on the side of a hill in Umvere and some scraps of this and that I found in the woods.

Every house in this neighborhood looks like this inside.

As we made the lean-to, I remembered I might have seen a door on the otherside of the wall (bad visibility). After further investigation we found a tiny 8x10' room, so we abandonded the lean-to and moved in!

This lean-to is perched on the edge of a 150 foot cliff. If this homeless guy gets up on the wrong side of bed he will wake up in heaven. On the positive side he has a glorious view of the Potomac.

Leaned to hand quilt last Saturday and I'm hooked.

Lean to your left to see how advanced our baby's (and your) head control is. She is a superior being!
