Learned recently that a dear friend from my time living in the Sierra Nevada Mountains is nearing the end and was recently placed in hospice care.
The Mrs. and I packed a bag and made the journey to the place we once called home. It was sad saying farewell to our dear friend and wonderful hiking companion. She will be remembered.
We stopped on the way home in Nevada’s first town, Genoa. Genoa was on the Emigrant Trail; a path traveled by hundreds of Pioneers coming to Oregon and California from the eastern States.

Genoa:
Founded in the Spring of 1851, Genoa is Nevada's first settlement. Sitting on the western edge of the Carson Valley, along the Overland Emigrant Trail, the town was settled by John Reese and pioneers from the Utah Territory. Historically, the land started as a lean-to named Mormon Station.

Wood slats kept in a lean-to at a small temple. These are used to make sotoba prayer planks for the deceased, custom made and sold for a fee to family members.
We are on the road again, so I will be in & out of Flickr, but wish you a HFF & a very Happy Weekend! : )
I passed this lean-to many times, always meaning to stop and grab a shot. But I never saw it, such that it would make an interesting image. One day I got both bored, and desperate, and started playing with the light room sliders, wondering if I could white out the surroundings, like some others seem to be able to do without it being extremely snowy and cold. So here we are: rusty leaning shed in the snow. OK, I'm still desperate
Winter Patterns in Nature: Lines and Angles
Not tornadoes nor hurricanes, but a lot of heavy wind storms in 2015 left a lot of trees uprooted. Some refused to give up, and were supported by other trees, a "lean-to" forest.
From my todays walk in the morning ....

The naked earth is warm with Spring,
And with green grass and bursting trees
Leans to the sun's kiss glorying,
And quivers in the sunny breeze.

Happy Wing Wednesday!
An unidentified Euston bound Avanti Pendoleno demonstrates its tilting capabilities as it leans into the Grendon curves north of Atherstone.
Taken in the mid-day December gloom by the Grendon footbridge steps.
I’ve no idea of the working or unit number.

If you like railway pictures that are a bit different to the norm, try the Phoenix Railway Photographic circle website;
Stand up, sit down, fight fight fight! Wow, Explored!
This old fence seems to be rooting for both sides, some posts leaning left, some right. Although it's seen better days, I think it's got some "fight" left in it yet. HFF!
DRS 37425 & 37422 lean to the canted curve at Golborne Dale this evening with the lightly loaded 6K05 daily Carlisle - Crewe Basford Hall engineers train.
* Was beginning to think we would never see 37's working 6K05 again after many occasions where our hopes were raised only to see a 66 put on the point late in the day.
Todays pairing of 37425 'Concrete Bob' and 37422 only worked the train I believe because they were being given a test prior to Friday's 'Easter Highlander' Railtour from Skipton.
* Pole @ 8m.
I had to do some really acrobatic poses to keep my own shadow out of the picture when shooting this.
