Native, cool-season, perennial tufted herb 10-50 cm tall. Leaves are pinnate with leaflets along a stem. Leaflets have toothed edges and are dark green above and hairy below. Flowerheads are interrupted spikes with tiny flowers that usually have 4 sepals, no petals and 2-10 stamens. Fruits are burr-like, have 18–35 spines and stick to clothes, socks and animal coats. Mostly flowers in spring. Common in higher rainfall areas of the tablelands and slopes. Tends to be found in less heavily modified native pastures. Control is not generally required. It is grazed by sheep and considered a useful component of a native pasture. Fruit can be a wool contaminant. There are no registered herbicides for its control, however cultivation and/or chipping can be used if control is deemed necessary. If landholders want to retain this species then rotational grazing is likely to be better than set stocking.

The COP26 conference generated many leaflets handed out to participants, pressure groups, campaigners and as in my case local residents. Not all seemed equally relevant. The leaflets handed to me included the following, in no particular order:

* Extinction Rebellion.

* An event about civil resistance movements joining together.

* Vegan recipes, plus information about an e-book.

* An event at a depot for electric buses.

* Harper Church.

* Leaflets about China.

* A programme of COP26 related fringe events by Bright Blue, a independent think tank for liberal conservatism.
