Just another fence, actually double fence if you can spot it. This was a test shot of my 50mm f/2.5 Compact Macro to find out how it does with depth for non-macro shots. HFF!

The City of Lead is located in Lawrence County, South Dakota. In 2020 the population was 2,982.

Like nearby Deadwood the town was born out of a gold rush. Until it closed in 2002 the Homestake Mine was the largest gold mine in the Western hemisphere.

A little further up Shale Creek, we could now hear the waterfall but not quite see. That moment that is universally special and sacred to waterfall enthusiasts. I had never seen anything like those celestial light shafts and will probably never see anything like them again. It was so great to share that experience with Joe and Alicia (wnywaterfallers)!

NO INVITES OR ICONS PLEASE

9/2019 - Lead, SD

Home to an apparently now-closed gold mine, Lead, SD embraces its heritage with several pieces of Homestake Mining Company equipment on display. Homestake Mining Co compressed air locomotive No. 1A is a three-cylinder engine.

The Beatles walking out of cassette. The detail on this one is really intense. Lead the way. Find your beat. : )

Still can't think of a title for this series. I want to make it continuous, that's why I decided to use the same dress to make it seem it all happened at once.

But I took this on a different day, at a different open space, and at a different time. The biggest challenge here is matching the color to make the whole series cohesive...it's not close but this is the best that I can do. (THIS USED TO BE SO GREEN UNDER THE MIDDAY SUN!!!)

The overland was under threat of cessation but the victorian government contributed the subsidy to enable the rail service to continue for another year

Three units lead UP's thrice weekly manifest from Grand Junction to Denver, the only regularly scheduled manifest UP still runs on the Moffat. The train passes through the OS at East Rocky. One thing I never quite understood about East Rocky. When UP added their control point designations, East Rocky was given CP DS016. However, it is much closer to milepost 17, so it seems like CP DS017 would have been more logical.

"And in the end, the love you take, is equal

to the love you make" ---Paul McCartney

Pulling in from Guelph to Kitchener yards. Not sure why they needed 3 PU's but it was nice to see 1408 again.

Crude stone steps lead up to the lighthouse and there is no keeper's house.

Built in 1887, destroyed by German bombs in 1943 and rebuilt to original specifications in 1994. The 23 foot tall stone tower is perched on an isolated rock in the harbor of Andros (Chora) and is unique among Greek lighthouses and probably all of Europe. It was the first Greek lighthouse to be automated.

Two white flashes are displayed every 15 seconds.

The town of Andros is also called Chora and is the largest community on Andros Island and is a frequent stopping port for cruise ships. Population around 4000 in the last census.

I initially had no intention to shoot at Ivesdale, though I had just enough lead on the NS255 to fire off a quick shot, and I have wanted to snap something here eventually, so I took the opportunity. Ivesdale is always a gamble due in part to the road network (getting to the next spot can be troublesome, pythagoras and all that jazz...) and also because Ivesdale has an actively used grain elevator. All it takes is a few hoppers in the way to totally block off photo opportunities here. Conveniently for me, NS hadn't dropped any cars off recently, so when BNSF5401 led the westbound Triple Crown through, it was easy enough to secure a quick photo.

It was also about the best light I got that evening, tiny gap in the clouds gave a touch of nose light, but just a touch. From here, it was one hell of a race on towards Cerro Gordo. Hell of a run that was. They sure were moving fast - they'd lost a decent chunk of time back at Dawn thanks to a slew of eastbounds and CN stealing the diamond for a bit. Still, as hard as chasing after these speedy trains is, it is very neat to watch them move so quick.
