I never realized the lead plant blooms. The color on both foliage and flowers was quite nice but I suspect that won't last. In between gusts of wind I got this shot which includes a bit of the foliage.

The calmly flowing waters of a swollen Kickapoo Creek gently touch the concrete footings currently supporting the passage of this heavy, 131-car, southbound Union Pacific coal drag as its two, lead, AC six-axles ride their dynamic brakes, coasting downhill across a combination deck plate and lattice through truss bridge along the former C&NW "SI Line" outside Bartonville on a gloomy July morning. This train of loaded aluminum BethGons -- symbol CNAPW 14 -- are topped out with over 18,000 tons Wyoming's finest black diamonds; Filled at Peabody's North Antelope Mine in the state's rich Powder River Basin, these hoppers have only a few short miles left to travel before reaching their destination at NRG Energy's Powerton Generating Station near Pekin. The train will soon cross the Illinois River drawbridge and immediately make a right turn onto the IMRR and down into Crescent Yard for interchange where they'll tie down and the loads will wait for an Illinois & Midland crew to spot the cars at the plant for final dumping. Slated for decommission come the end of 2028 due to the country's relentless insistence on "cleaner" energy alternatives, Powerton is the sole remaining, actively burning coal-fired power plant to still remain standing in the greater Peoria area, outliving the facilities at Havana, Hennepin and Canton's Duck Creek (2019), and eventually the E.D. Edwards Station at Bartonville (2022). Once closed, it'll be another major hit in activity levels for a route that is already down in traffic. Twice weekly scheduled manifest service between Peoria and Clinton, IA, as needed coal, grain and ethanol unit traffic, and seasonal ballast trains are pretty much the bulk of what traverses this line.
For southbounds, this is the final, and most dramatic, crossing atop a snaky Kickapoo Creek which twists and turns beneath the rails of the Peoria Subdivision in six different locations within just about a short, two mile stretch of track. Just about a half mile back from this bridge, the train is still working through the CTC controlled interlocking at "Peoria JCT" where the Peoria Sub main to South Pekin splits from UP's "Low Line," which routes trains for Peoria area interchange into and out of their small Adams St. Yard just a short distance away on the city's southwest side. The single-tracked Peoria Subdivision, which runs south out of Nelson away from the busy Geneva Sub, uses a combination of CTC, TWC and ABS infrastructure to route what little traffic runs down this line and is also the only class 1 of four that has a "through route" through the city. A line that does not get much attention from photographers, an older "winged" EMD SD70ACe on the point of a well timed coal load just was enough for me to grab the camera and quickly pick it off at this very seldom shot location.
I sure could do without that walkway.

This was an exceptionally beautiful morning here in Poznan. Very foggy in the early parts only to have the fog break later and all of this gorgeous light pour through. Although already late to work and I should probably be following their lead and race to where I need to be, I am caught in the moment and continue to shoot for a bit...this was one of the last shots before I reluctantly made my way to start the day..............somehow I forgot to post this earlier. Enjoy.

Here you can see how early car manufacturers used lead (instead of Bondo) to fill in roof joints. Notice how sanding (file) marks are still present in the lead. More importantly, just how thick the early paint jobs had to be to cover these scratches up.

I know, I know, it's a "pull-tab" not a pop top. This is from a can of Budweiser, the King of Beers (if you are to believe their advertising). This was left here by a visiting Euro beer-lover. When she's here she does enjoy US beer, like PBR and Bud. Of course, Corona and Heineken and other brands of beer are on the "acceptable to drink" list as well.

Crestwood students worked under the leadership of a fellow LEAD student demonstrating a particular leadership style to assemble a Lego model. They learned about what working under an autocratic, democratic, and laissez-faire leader felt like.

CN 322's power (CN 8328, CN 3107 & CN 3956) is now on CN 527 and heading towards Taschereau Yard, with a nice cut of MGLX hoppers up front.
The skyline shot from 18th Street overlooking CN's Freeport Sub, and the Saint Charles Air Line was a must shoot on this recent trip to Chicago. With only a few freights to ply these rails a day, catching any westbound here had to matter.
Westbound CN M337, lead by a pair of BNSF ES44's, slowly trundle down the main on the near track as it curves out of the 16th Street interlocking just around the corner. Granted the right of way was overgrown, and the power wasn't anything to write home about, but a train is a train. I'll chalk this up as a win.

The HST Train is arriving for storage, after withdrawal from mainline duties. The lead Power Car, 43007 had recently been put into the original HST livery by Cross Country, to mark the 47 years of service, from these iconic trains.
Ely Cathedral, often referred to as the 'Queen of the Fens' can be seen on the horizon, roughly in the centre.

The lead mines chimney at Ballycorus is the last remaining remnant of the lead mine opened in 1807 near Kilternan, Co. Dublin. Open cast mining for lead began around 1807 and then underground mining started in 1826. This continued until 1863. The chimney from the smelting works remains. This is a popular walking destination for the people of Dublin, and also ends my walk!
The entrance to my old school. We never used this, as it lead to the Shirley Hall where we had morning assemblies four days a week. The other day, they were held in the beautiful chapel.

I made a nice discovery in my mother-in-law's bride's feathers (Aruncus dioicus), also known as goat's beard.
This beautiful Tortricid micro-moth is known as Celypha siderana and its larvae has Spiraeeae as their host plants (of which Aruncus belong to).
Initially they where kind of skitterish, but eventually I found one or two who didn't immediately take off at the mere sight of my camera.

B&P flares 3064 - 3063 and GP40 3032 lead a loaded GW1 with 56 salt loads across the bridge over the Genesee River in Mt. Morris, NY on December 10, 2020. The bridge is ex DL&W and this open view is relatively new. There is a park and boat launch site that was recently built, with foot ramps to the water for launching small things like kayaks.

The Sella group (German: Sellagruppe, Ladin: Mëisules or L Sela) is a plateau-shaped massif in the Dolomites mountains of northern Italy. The Sella lies north of the Marmolada and to the east of the Langkofel. The highest peak is Piz Boè at 3,151 m (10,338 ft) above sea level.
The Sella lies between the four Ladin valleys of Badia, Gherdëina, Fascia, and Fodom and is divided between the provinces of South Tyrol, Trentino and Belluno. It can be driven around by car crossing the Campolongo Pass, Pordoi Pass, Sella Pass, and Gardena Pass. In winter it is possible to ski around the entire massif by using the Sella Ronda ski lift carousel. Also each winter the alpine touring ski Sellaronda Skimarathon race is held, which leads around the entire Sella and covers 42 km of mountain trails. The same trails can be mastered by Mountain bike during the summer.
Other peaks in the massif are the Piz Pisciadù 2,985 m (9,793 ft), the Boèseekofel 2,910 m (9,550 ft), the four Sellatürme 2,696 m (8,845 ft), Sass Pordoi 2,952 m (9,685 ft), whose summit can be reached by funicular from Pordoi Pass, and Brunecker Turm 2,495 m (8,186 ft). During winter the summit is the starting point for many alpine ski tours, of which the most famous are the descent through the Val Mesdì and the descent from the Pordoischarte.

Die Sellagruppe oder einfach Sella (ladinisch l Sela, italienisch il Sella) ist ein plateauförmiger Bergstock in den Dolomiten in Italien. Sie befindet sich zu Teilen in Südtirol, im Trentino und in Venetien. Höchster Gipfel der Gruppe ist der Piz Boè mit 3152 m s.l.m.
Rund um die Sellagruppe sind die Täler des ladinischen Sprachgebiets gruppiert, was den Gebirgsstock zum geographischen Zentrum Ladiniens macht.
Namen
Neben Sella und Sellagruppe existieren im Deutschen mit Sellastock, Sellamassiv und Sellaberg weitere Bezeichnungen für die Gebirgsgruppe. Im Atlas Tyrolensis (von 1760 bis etwa 1770 erstellt) von Peter Anich und Blasius Hueber wird für das Gebiet die Bezeichnung Sallei verwendet.
Der Name Sella für den Bergstock ist vom Sellajoch aufgewandert und entstammt dem ladinischen Wort sela mit der Bedeutung „Sattel“.
Daneben besteht noch ein weiterer ladinischer Name für einen Teil der Gebirgsgruppe, in der Grödner Varietät Mëisules, in der Gadertaler Varietät Mësores. Dieser wird speziell für den nördlichen Teil des Massivs verwendet. Abgeleitet ist dieser Name vom lateinischen mensa bzw. alpenromanischen *mesula, womit ein „Tisch“ bzw. in der übertragenen Bedeutung eine „Felsterrasse“ gemeint ist. Diese Bezeichnung bezieht sich auf die waagrechten, geologischen Raibler Schichten, die das Massiv stellenweise in zwei Stockwerke teilen.
Geographie
Lage und Umgebung
In der Sellagruppe treffen am Piz Boè drei italienische Provinzen zusammen: Südtirol, Belluno und das Trentino. Nordwestlich der Sella befindet sich Wolkenstein, nordöstlich Corvara, südöstlich Arabba und südwestlich Canazei. Die Luftlinien-Entfernung nach Cortina d’Ampezzo beträgt rund 24 Kilometer und nach Bozen etwa 36 Kilometer.
Umgeben wird der Sellastock von vier Gebirgspässen: Im Norden liegt das Grödner Joch (2125 m) zwischen Gröden und Gadertal, im Osten der Campolongopass (1875 m) zwischen Gadertal und Buchenstein, im Süden das Pordoijoch (2239 m) zwischen Buchenstein und Fassatal und im Westen das Sellajoch (2218 m) zwischen Fassatal und Gröden. An der breitesten Stelle misst das Sellamassiv vom Grödner Joch im Norden ins obere Ende des Buchensteiner Tals im Süden etwas mehr als sieben Kilometer. Vom Sellajoch im Westen nach Transrüs im Osten beträgt die Distanz etwas mehr als 9,5 Kilometer.
Über das Grödner Joch geht das Sellamassiv nach Norden in die Puezgruppe über. Nach Nordosten und Osten schließt sich die Fanesgruppe an. Im Süden folgen der Höhenzug um den Sasso del Cappello sowie das höchste Massiv der Dolomiten, die Marmolada (3343 m). Im Westen befindet sich die Langkofelgruppe.
Gliederung und Gipfel
Der Sellastock kann in vier Untergruppen gegliedert werden. Den gesamten östlichen Teil bildet die Boègruppe mit dem höchsten Berg der Sella, dem Piz Boè (3152 m). Diese Untergruppe umfasst daneben unter anderem noch Piz- (2827 m) und Boèseekofel (2913 m), Zehner (2916 m), Neuner (2904 m), Vallonspitze (2906 m), Col Turond (2927 m), Col Alton (2882 m) sowie die Pordoispitze (2950 m), auf die eine Seilbahn vom Pordoijoch führt.
Getrennt durch das Val Lastiës, dessen Namen vom ladinischen Wort für Felsplatten kommt und aus der Umgebung der Boèhütte (2871 m) nach Süden ins Fassatal führt, schließt im Nordwesten die Mëisulesgruppe an. Sie wird vom Mëisules-Plateau, einer Hochfläche, beherrscht. Dessen Ränder stellen Gipfel wie Piz Lastiës (2875 m), Piz Sëlva (2941 m), Piz Gralba (2972 m), Piz Miara (2964 m) und Piz Beguz (2974 m) dar. Außerdem gehören zu dieser Untergruppe noch die Gipfel des Le Mëisules (bis zu 2999 m), der Piz Ciavazes (2831 m) und die bekannten Sellatürme (bis zu 2696 m).
Dem Val Lastiës entgegen führt das Mittagstal nach Norden auf Kolfuschg und das obere Abteital zu. Es trennt damit die Pisciadùgruppe von der Boègruppe. Das Vallun de Pisciadù und das Val de Tita bilden die Grenze zwischen Mëisules- und Pisciadùgruppe. Wichtige Gipfel innerhalb der letzteren Gruppe sind Pisciadùspitze (2985 m), Dent de Mesdì (2881 m), Sas de Mesdì (2978 m), Bergerturm (2861 m) und der Zwischenkofel (2907 m).
Nördlichste Untergruppe ist die Murfreidgruppe, die durch das Val Gralba von der Mëisulesgruppe unterschieden wird. Gipfel hier sind die Murfreidtürme (bis zu 2724 m), die Murfreidspitze (2634 m) und Rodelheilspitze (2615 m).

Das Mittagstal (ladinisch Val de Mesdì, italienisch Val Mezdì) ist ein stellenweise bis zu 45° steiles Geröll-Kar im Norden des Sella-Massivs in Südtirol (Italien). Es wird von geübten Bergwanderern und Skifahrern als besondere Herausforderung angesehen.
Lage, Geografie und Landschaft
Das Mittagstal beginnt an der Boèhütte (2.873 m) unterhalb des Piz Boè, der mit 3.152 m höchsten Erhebung der Sellagruppe. Zwischen den hohen Wänden der Gipfel von Zwischenkofel, Torre Berger, Sass de Mesdì, Bamberger Spitze, Dent de Mesdì und Pisciadùturm im Westen sowie Neuner, Zehner, Boè-Seekofel, Pizkofel, Großem und Kleinem Mesdì-Turm im Osten fällt es sehr steil auf seinen ersten 3 km um mehr als 1.000 m auf ca. 1.800 m Höhe ab. Das von den hohen Felswänden flankierte Kar hat im oberen Abschnitt stellenweise einen schluchtartigen Charakter, an anderen Stellen weitet es sich zu größeren Geröllhalden, auf denen bis in den Frühsommer hinein noch weite Schneefelder liegen.
Das vom Pisciadù kommende Tal Val de Bosli mündet links in den unteren Bereich des Mittagstals.
Der letzte Abschnitt bis zu seinem Ende in Kolfuschg (ca. 1 km) verläuft durch Nadelwald und fällt nach einer letzten Steilstufe in den Wiesengrund des Gadertals auf 1.640 m.
Durch das Mittagstal fließt der Mittagsbach (ladinisch Rü de Mesdì), der im Sommer im oberen Abschnitt trocken ist. In der regenreichen Jahreszeit bildet er unterhalb der Mesdì-Türme einen Wasserfall. Er vereinigt sich im unteren Abschnitt mit dem Pisciadù-Bach (Rü de Pisciadù) und fließt bei Kolfuschg in die Gader.
Sport
Ausgangspunkt für Abstiege und Ski-Abfahrten durch das Mittagstal ist die Boèhütte, die nach ca. 1-stündiger leichter Wanderung vom Sass Pordoi (schnelle Seilbahn vom Pordoijoch) erreicht werden kann.
Der Abstieg war im Einstiegsbereich ein Klettersteig entlang einer Felsrinne. Zumindest seit 2019 sind alle Seilsicherungen am Weg Nr. 651 entfernt und ein Hinweisschild teilt in 3 Sprachen mit „Nur für Geübte und mit Kletterausrüstung“.
Die Skiabfahrt ist unbewacht und unbeschildert und wird vom örtlichen Touristenverband nur erfahrenen Skifahrern bei sehr guten Schneeverhältnissen in Begleitung eines Bergführers empfohlen.
In Einzelfällen ist von Extremsportlern auch Mountainbiking durch das Mittagstal unternommen worden.

Neben der Bergwelt um Cortina d’Ampezzo waren auch die Felstürme über dem Mittagstal Drehort für den Film Cliffhanger – Nur die Starken überleben mit Sylvester Stallone (1993).

Marmion Shaft at the Bawdwin lead/zinc mine in north-east Myanmar. It was sunk in 1914 down to the sixth (adit) level at c700ft and was subsequently deepened to serve 14 levels in total to a depth of 1700ft. The winding house contains two electric winders manufactured at the Siemens Works of English Electric at Stafford in the UK in 1925. The ore is trammed out of the mine via a two mile adit known as "Tiger Tunnel".
