A Shore-esque view of this isolated little laundromat. I quickly developed an obsession with this building. I have some BW film of this as well. And plans to venture back in the future. So you'll probably be sick of it. If you aren't already.

The steps lead down to the sea, the oncoming tide and more. The morning light shimmering off the ocean surface, a platform for the eye to reach the horizon drawing a line to ease the soul.
Warren and I took this block of lead to the gun range long ago, back in the '80s when we worked for the Palo Alto Medical Foundation. We fired at it with a 5.56mm M-14 automatic rifle. We were so far away we had to look at it with the scope. That's when I realized how lethal these weapons were if I could hit a target that was only 3 1/2" x 4" from 100 yards or so at first go. So I kept it as a reminder. It sits on my work bench and is a good weight for things that need to be glued. A bullet like that can shatter your entire bone.
As a piece of sculpture it is also interesting in that it represents the collaborative nature of our relationship. I took the first shot which is the top hole. Warren nailed it nearly dead center. His hole presses up into my hole. It is somehow emblematic of our platonic erotic relationship which usually happened in the photography studio, but also in conversation.
Nord Lead... a modern take on an analog classic. Small, light and fat sounding. I still prefer the Juno 106, but this is a nice way to compliment the old gear in the studio.
I wonder if there is some governmental department that would get this mess cleaned up?
There might even be some heavy metal contamination. And this is sitting about 100 feet away from a city water impoundment area right off of Joe Battle. Just south of where 375 crosses Zaragoza Road.
UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, jointly with UNICEF, lead the largest global programme to accelerate the abandonment of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). In line with Zero Tolerance Day for FGM on 6 February 2017, UNFPA lead a mission to Kenya's Narok County to document UNFPA’s active participation to encourage the abandonment of the practice. Female Genital Mutilation, FGM, involves altering or injuring the female genitalia for non-medical reasons. It negatively impacts a girl’s psychological, emotional and physical well-being, education, health and gender equality rights, and is internationally recognized as a human rights violation. Maasai culture, often praised and used as a tourist attraction, encourages FGM which is views as the key to success in all aspects of life. Many Maasai families cannot afford to give their children formal schooling, so to protect their daughters from lives of poverty, they choose to marry them off at a young age. Because Maasai girls are traditionally considered children until they are circumcised, it is seen as imperative for a Maasai girl to undergo the circumcision rite before she is married making FGM a precursor to child marriage. This strongly ingrained cultural belief propels families to go to great lengths to complete the circumcision. Both FGM and child marriage negatively impact long-term poverty reduction and development outcomes. In collaboration with World Vision Kenya as an implementing partner UNFPA identify Narok County in Maasailand as one of eight targeted counties in Kenya where UNFPA-supported interventions are transforming and saving lives of women and girls in the county.

Tidying up ready for some serious room re-organisation..... and found this old cigar box, which contains my Dad's old lead soldiers. Very battered, they were clearly well loved and played with.
UPDATE: Just done a bit of ebay surfing to try and find out more - and I think they were made by Betta Toys, which were (are?) an irish company
