This was the initial test of connecting my Arduino Mega to an LCD module. This took longer than expected because I didn't realise that the R/W pin had to be connected.

This morning my LCD stopped acting like one and gave this nice looking pattern rather than a desktop. Considering the many hours I use up looking at it, this was a serious problem for me. I was so desparate I actually went for a run.
Using an mbed.org microcontroller with a simple black and green LCD (which I soldered a pin strip to so I could affix to breadboard), this is a simple demo of how you can run 16 character scrolling text.
Another purchase I made to experiment with a few ideas. This is a 3.5 inch LCD screen intended for installation in cars in conjunction with reversing cameras. I'll probably remove it from that housing if I use it in the build and will splice the power into a molex I think.
It cost around $19 which was right on the money for me to buy just to take apart and experiment with!
