I gave the LCD-3s a quick run in my hotel room on Jude's rig (CLAS, SR-71B and Moon Audio cables) before we headed out to the Fujiya Avic show.

I've solved the LCD enclosure window problem, by simply using a transparent case.
I think it looks really elegant.
I just received these 2x16 LCDs (and one 2x40) white on blue with LED backlight. This is a setup for using it in 4bit mode with an I2C IO expander. (Excuse the bad pict, blue LCDs are a pain to shoot)

ON Semiconductor (Nasdaq: ONNN), a leading global supplier of high performance, energy efficient, silicon solutions, today released its latest GreenPoint™ open reference design for LCD TV power supplies. This 180 watt (W) High Voltage LCD Integrated Power Supply (HV-LIPS) combines the main system power with the backlight inverter. By implementing an architecture where the inverter is directly powered from the 400 volt (V) PFC rail, the reference design eliminates a complete power conversion stage, improving overall system efficiency, simplifying the design and reducing the bill of materials. The design supports the need for higher efficiency power supplies to meet the active and standby power requirement of the ENERGY STAR 3.0 TV standard that went into place in November 2008.
To test the theory I cut two notches out of the metal screen surround. These allowed me to re-assemble the diffuser and LCD panel, while allowing access to where the CCFL lamps used to be.
Routing the power cables out of the panel proved to be a little problem. I used my Dremel to remove some of the black plastic from the former CCFL cable guides.
The LCD is poorly secured. This may be intentional, but i have no reference. The LCD can be easily lifted. This happened to me when the Resin made it under the FlexiVat somehow and adhered the two together. When i then went to remove the Vat to clean, the screen came right up. It was no big deal to put back in place, but this could lead to issues with the ribbon cable.
