Man oh man. I just got the widescreen 24" Dell 2405FPW LCD monitor -- the same display internally as the 23" Apple Cinema Display.
I can't believe it, but my Mac mini can drive the thing at its full native resolution via DVI, at 1920x1200! Even the built-in flash card reader and USB 2.0 hubs work fine.
I think we've officially made it to Ludicrous Size.

4x4GB Corsair Dominator DDR3 RAM (9-9-9-24)

Razer Megalodon 5.1 gaming headset

Generic Microsoft wireless keyboard ('cause I need the ergonomic part)
...and about $250 of desk mounts and cabling.
I should've done a better job of obscuring the power LED. The LCD backlight turns off automatically.
See the set.

This is the spectrum from my LCD. There are four spectrums here -- the first shows "white", the next is blue, then green, then red. There seems to be some red and blue showing up in green, and green shows up in blue (but not red). I don't know if this is due to light leakage into the "off" pixels on the LCD or if it was designed to work like this and they're just using off colors to balance the colors correctly.
I'm a bit color blind and I've always found it easier to tell color on my CRT monitor, and I never really knew why. I'm guessing it's due to the narrow bands on the LCD. I have the same problem with flourescent lights -- certain colors will look weird. Flagstaff is near Fort Lowell observatory so the streetlights are some sort of special low light pollution lights. Everybody else could see normally but to me, my red car looked purple. I'm guessing it had some weird spectrum going on too.

A Navman Jupiter 12 GPS module (part no. TU35-D410-041) salvaged from a Phantom Tracker connected to an Arduino Duemilanove and a HD44780 compatible 4x20 LCD display that I had lying around. More details here.
GPS time is very accurate so I might get some of those huge seven segment LEDs to make a GPS clock.
Ladies and gentlemen, we have a working display! The Pertelian LCD is now showing various stats for 'ayeka' (my modified Linksys NSLU2 NAS device, which is now our home network server) - both parts of the lcdproc software which drives the display (the client and the server), are now fully operational.
I've still got to fine-tune it all - for one thing, I would also like to reduce lcdproc's CPU usage, as it seems quite high (between 10-20%), but then the NSLU2 is not exactly a Cray, so there may not be much I can do about this.
Anyway, at least it's working...
