Controlador LCD para DisplayPort

 

STMicroelectronics, uno de los mayores fabricantes de circuitos integrados (IC’s) de consumo, ha anunciado una nueva serie de dispositivos controladores monochip que desarrollan las características y las prestaciones hasta ahora sólo encontradas en monitores premium o high-end, incluyendo capacidades de proceso de color de 12 bit, mejora de fidelidad de color, conectividad DisplayPort y el menor consumo de energía de la industria cuando el monitor se encuentra en ‘standby’.

 

Diseñada para equipos multimedia de alta definición y WUXGA (1920 x 1200 píxeles), la nueva serie STDP6000 ya ha recibido varios ‘Premios al diseño’ de fabricantes de monitores y permite a los clientes seleccionar una, algunas o todas las características para introducir pantallas diferenciadas con la mejor visión de su clase a un precio muy competitivo.

 

El STDP6000 acepta un amplio rango de entradas digitales, como DisplayPort, HDMI (Interface Multimedia de Alta Definición) y DVI (Interface de Vídeo Digital), y también soporta entradas VGA para dotar de conectividad a fuentes analógicas.

 

DisplayPort, que se está convirtiendo en el interface digital preferido en aplicaciones con ordenadores portátiles y monitores, es el estándar abierto para displays desarrollados por VESA (Asociación de Estándares Electrónicos y de Vídeo). Esta tecnología hace posible una transmisión de señal de audio-vídeo de elevado ancho de banda usando menos líneas de señal que los interfaces convencionales de display empleados en aplicaciones de monitores multimedia. Por estos motivos, el Receptor DisplayPort del STDP6000 ha superado el Test de Compatibilidad VESA.

 

El STDP6000 también integra una clave HDCP (Protección de Contenido Digital de Alto Ancho de Banda) para ofrecer transmisiones seguras de datos de audio-vídeo, contribuyendo así a incrementar la eficiencia y reducir los costes.

 

Por lo tanto, el nuevo SoC (System on Chip) controlador LCD, que se presenta en un encapsulado TQFP de 128 pines, garantiza la calidad de imagen encontrada en monitores de estación de trabajo de grado profesional al implementar la tecnología Faroudja RealColor® de ST.

 

Además, gracias a su tecnología ST Smart ISP (In-System Programming), los fabricantes y los usuarios pueden actualizar el software de monitor sin necesidad de llamadas ni soporte técnico in situ.

This is a test board showing a PIC18F4550 microcontroller driving an LCD module (a Dick Smith Cat Z 4172). The LCD is showing some (fake, for now) figures that might be displayed on a load cell system.

This was the initial test of connecting my Arduino Mega to an LCD module. This took longer than expected because I didn't realise that the R/W pin had to be connected.

Confident enough in the smooth ride, to haul a large LCD home

This is how an LCD should not look!

I just received these 2x16 LCDs (and one 2x40) white on blue with LED backlight. This is a setup for using it in 4bit mode with an I2C IO expander. (excuse the bad pict, blue LCDs are a pain to shoot)

New LED backlight. Spots from individual LEDs are noticeable but it doesn't affect performance of LCD.
