intended layout when displaying this work
The concept of this project was on normalizing anthropophagy/cannibalism. I focused on the emotions/reason behind the action instead of the action itself. The first row is on the desperation someone feels under these circumstances, focusing on the starvation/fear. The middle row is on the cultural side. Each picture represents a different reason, L-R: cultural norm, pacification of gods through sacrifice, purification of oneself, and gaining characteristics of another. The last row focused on Ted Bundy/Albert Fish instances.
The animal heads were used to further drive home the emotions relating to the reason. Deers are fragile creatures and birds are isolated and fight when attacked.
This was a digital project, but I chose to add grain to the images to give it a feeling of antiquity.

I'm using this layout for my Cow Quilt
INSTRUCTIONS:
Cut squares the same size as the focus block. Cut the squares corner to corner to make half-square triangles (HST). Attach the triangles to the block you're framing. Iron well.
Trim to square up the block using a square rotary ruler. When squaring the block, make sure you leave 1/4 beyond the points to allow for seam allowance. This is the size you'll be making the rest of the blocks.
Once you've determined the new-sized blocks you have from the triangle framed units, you're ready to do the strip-framed blocks.
Determine the finished size of the original blocks and the finished size of the framed blocks. (The finished size is 1/2 inch less than the cut size).
Subtract the finished size of the original block from the finished size of the triangle-framed block. To find the finished width of the coping strips, divide your answer in half. Now, had 1/2 inch to your answer. (I like to pad that number by adding another 1/2 inch).
Cut as many strips as you will need to frame the blocks. Note: You do not need to calculate the exact length of the coping strip since they will be trimmed to size as they are sewn to the block.
Sew the strips to the block, adding strips to opposite sides of the block and trimming the length to the same size as the block. Add the remaining two strips in the same way.
Iron the block well, and trim to the same size as the triangle framed block. I'd rather cut away a little bit and make sure all the blocks are the same size and perfectly square.
