We moved into another house nearby that had hot running water and a bathroom with a bath - what civilization, what luxury! But the lavatory was still outside at the end of the garden.
Now that you've found your paradise
This is your Kingdom to command
You can go outside and polish your car
Or sit by the fire in your Shangri-la
Here is your reward for working so hard
Gone are the lavatories in the back yard
Gone are the days when you dreamed of that car
You just want to sit in your Shangri-la
Put on your slippers and sit by the fire
You've reached your top and you just can't get any higher
You're in your place and you know where you are
In your Shangri-la
Sit back in your old rocking chair
You need not worry, you need not care
You can't go anywhere
Shangri-la, Shangri-la, Shangri-la
The little man who gets the train
Got a mortgage hanging over his head
But he's too scared to complain
'Cos he's conditioned that way
Time goes by and he pays off his debts
Got a TV set and a radio
For seven shillings a week
Shangri-la, Shangri-la, Shangri-la, Shangri-la, Shangri-la, Shangri-la
And all the houses in the street have got a name
'Cos all the houses in the street they look the same
Same chimney pots, same little cars, same window panes
The neighbors call to tell you things that you should know
They say their lines, they drink their tea, and then they go
They tell your business in another Shangri-la
The gas bills and the water rates, and payments on the car
Too scared to think about how insecure you are
Life ain't so happy in your little Shangri-la
Shangri-la, Shangri-la la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la
Put on your slippers and sit by the fire
You've reached your top and you just can't get any higher
You're in your place and you know where you are
In your Shangri-la
Sit back in your old rocking chair
You need not worry, you need not care
You can't go anywhere

Class 108 two car diesel multiple unit formed of Driving Motor Brake Second (DMBS) E50604 and Driving Trailer Composite Lavatory (DCTL) E56203 stands in the Down platform at Selby, 29th May 1978.
Unit History
The first of the Class 108 "Derby Lightweight" diesel multiple units emerged from Derby works in 1958. This large class was developed from the earlier series of Derby Lightweight vehicles built in the mid-1950s. Vehicle bodies and underframes were of aluminium construction, except for the headstocks and certain diagonal members behind the buffers. Driving cabs, inner ends and buffer beams were of mild steel and cab roof domes were fibre glass mouldings. The high proportion of aluminium gave a weight saving compared to similar units and hence an improvement in power to weight ratio. The class 108 design were built to what became the mechanical standard for the First Generation diesel multiple unit fleet and proved to be flexible and reliable in service. In all three hundred and thirty three individual vehicles were constructed with production ending in 1961. Their alloy construction contributed to a long life, with few withdrawals before 1990. There were plans for a further life extension refurbishment until an accident showed the brittle nature of aging alloy, which resulted in rapid withdrawals, the last vehicles surviving until 1993. E50604 is from a batch of twenty one, two car sets built in 1958. It was originally partnered DTCL E56195 and initially allocated to Darlington. E56203 is from the same batch as E50604 and was originally partnered by DMBS E50612 and initially allocated to Bradford Hammerton Street.
E50604 was withdrawn in May 1988 and broken up in June 1988 whilst E56203 would survive in traffic until June 1993 and was broken up in May 1994.

The Antlers was a fashionable resort ... the railroad ran excursions out from Austin on weekends. The hotel also catered to traveling salesmen or “drummers” and cattlemen. There were 11 bedrooms in the hotel, each with a lavatory, barbershop, game room, and hot baths could be had. There was an adjoining campground, Riverside Park, just north of The Antlers, on ten acres of land fronted on Crescent Lake; the park was kept in good condition for vacationers, and hydrants and waterworks were installed. It had tents with wooden floors, and there were telephones connected to the hotel so that campers could order lunches from the hotel kitchen. C.F. Smith was the chef for The Antlers from 1901 to 1905. His wife was the pastry chef. In his diary, notes are made of meals prepared and the day's events. On November 29, 1903, his son was born and named Antlers J. Smith for “The Antlers-the place we cater to high-class visitors from Austin, Houston, Beaumont, Galveston, Llano, Waco, San Antonio, Ft. Worth, and all High-Class Cattlemen of Texas.” The son, Mr. Antlers J. Smith, returned to the hotel in 1994. He remembers seeing his father cook at the large wood-fired stove in the kitchen, using the basement as a summer kitchen, and watching the guests’ large trunks rolling head over heels down a ramp from the west end of the back upstairs porch. This porch section was enclosed in the 1930s to accommodate indoor plumbing.

As you can see I’m getting desperate............. for images.
Here I am resorting to taking pictures of the ladies lavatory at work
The existing master bathroom was large, but the space was not well organized. We created a modern spa feel to the master bath. This view also shows the floating lavatories and storage cabinet.

Unit History
Forty power/trailer two car sets were built to this design in two batches making them rather rare. Twenty nine sets were for the Scottish Region (allocated to Leith Central) and eleven sets for the London Midland Region (Longsight) although the first nine Scottish Region sets were initially loaned to the London Midland Region. The Scottish sets were displaced at the end of the 1960’s with the majority being transferred to Norwich, however withdrawals commenced in 1972 and continued at regular intervals throughout the 1970’s. The survivors in the latter years could found in the Manchester area as Norwich dispensed with the class by withdrawal or transfer as fast as it could. Sc56097 is from the first batch and was originally paired with Sc53042. It was one of the sets initially loaned to the London Midland Region when it entered traffic in June 1957. It was withdrawn from Leith Central in October 1972. Sc51118 is from the second batch and was originally paired with Sc56310 and entered traffic in December 1957. It was withdrawn in October 1972. Both vehicles entered preservation on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway in 1974. In 1985 they moved to the Swanage Railway and in 1986 to the West Somerset Railway where it remained in use until 1991. Since then the set has been in store arriving at the Midland Railway Centre in 1998. Restoration of Sc56097 commenced in 2011.
