Now, I don't usually take photos of toilets, but then again, they are seldom this interesting to shoot. This is one of the old toilets at the Renaissance castle Kronborg, Helsingør, Denmark.

The existing castle, replacing an older one, dates to the late 16th and is considered one of the prime examples of the North Renaissance style. It was a royal residence from the begin up to 1785, when it was turned over the army which used it up until 1923. After this the place got renovated and opened to the public. It is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

These words from the late Mr John Beverley Nichols are his own and should not be associated with my opinion, the photographer, as I am not a great fan of geraniums except when they are in flower.

For the rest of the year they look decidedly scrappy and I don't particularly like their peppery smell which I have seen described as "green and peppery". Unfortunately, I am unaware of what the colour "green" smells like thus I cannot comment - is its smell better or worse than the colour yellow?

I certainly don't steal books, or speak sharply to cats however, I do enjoy a drink. George Melly wrote in London Review of Books in 1991 that John Beverley Nichols would, unfortunately, drink a great deal when writing, and even secreted a bottle to top up his glass en route to the lavatory. . .just for the record, I have never, ever been guilty of needing a top up on my way to the smallest room in the house. 😊

"Café Achteck“ (Café Octagon) is a joking name for certain public urinals in Berlin. These lavatories consist of seven cast iron wall segments painted green and form an octagonal floor plan. The eighth wall is missing and forms the entrance, where a screen in front of at least three segments forms a privacy screen. The design for these lavatories dates back to 1878. In 1920 there were about 142 of these urinals in Greater Berlin. Inside, they offer standing room for seven male people. Even today, some preserved specimens can still be found in the cityscape.

Since the beginning of the 1990s, some examples have been renovated and are back in operation.

Café Achteck ist eine scherzhafte Bezeichnung für bestimmte öffentliche Pissoirs in Berlin. Diese Bedürfnisanstalten bestehen aus sieben grün lackierten gusseisernen Wandsegmenten und bilden einen achteckigen Grundriss. Die achte Wand fehlt und bildet den Eingang, bei dem ein davor stehender Paravent aus mindestens drei Segmenten einen Sichtschutz bildet.

Der Entwurf für diese Bedürfnisanstalten stammt aus dem Jahr 1878. Im Jahr 1920 gab es etwa 142 von diesen Pissoirs in Groß-Berlin. Sie bieten im Innern Stehplätze für sieben männliche Personen. Auch heute sind noch einige erhaltene Exemplare im Stadtbild zu finden. Seit Anfang der 1990er Jahre wurden einige Exemplare denkmalgerecht saniert und sind wieder in Betrieb.

HMS Caroline is a decommissioned C-class light cruiser of the Royal Navy that saw combat service in the First World War and served as an administrative centre in the Second World War. Caroline was launched and commissioned in 1914. At the time of her decommissioning in 2011 she was the second-oldest ship in Royal Navy service, after HMS Victory.

She served as a static headquarters and training ship for the Royal Naval Reserve, based in Alexandra Dock, Belfast, Northern Ireland, for the later stages of her career. She was converted into a museum ship. From October 2016 she underwent inspection and repairs to her hull at Harland and Wolff and opened to the public on 1st July 2017 at Alexandra Dock in the Titanic Quarter in Belfast.

Caroline was the last remaining British First World War light cruiser in service, and she is the last survivor of the Battle of Jutland still afloat. She is also one of only three surviving Royal Navy warships of the First World War, along with the 1915 Monitor HMS M33 (in Portsmouth dockyard), and the Flower-class sloop HMS President, (formerly HMS Saxifrage) usually moored on the Thames at Blackfriars but as from February 2016, in Number 3 Basin, Chatham.

For 'Macro Mondays' theme of 'Shadows'.

This is a small strip of paper cut from the side of a piece of lavatory paper - did someone say 'like gold dust here'? In cutting, the strip separated into two layers and I carefully rolled the pattered one round a paintbrush handle to get the curl. The paper was remarkably fragile.

Carefully placed on a white piece of paper and shot with a single lamp to get the shadow, I didn't like the resultant colour caste so converted the photo to B&W and like the result much better.
