I try not to indulge myself in all the vanities that most women do, but I do have one major flaw in that goal: I am a sucker for eyelashes and have obsessed over mine since I was 13 and discovered mascara. I take at least an extra ten minutes out of my day to make sure that they're thick long and as curly as I can get them. That's where my vanity lies, I'm trying to put less value on it but it's become so part of my daily routine it's strange for me not to.
Don't get me wrong, I can leave the house without makeup, and I don't wear a pound of foundation and blush and all that other fun shit. Some women prefer chap-stick all the time, I prefer mascara as opposed to not.

pull up your eyelid with your free hand and use the tweezer to carefully wiggle the knot of the flare into the roots of your natural lashes, coming up from underneath the lashline rather than on top.
figuring out which way to angle the tweezers is tricky and just takes some practice. if the lash doesn't set right, just carefully pull it away with the tweezer, clean any excess dried glue of the knot, and try again. it takes practice, and some flares go in with no problem while others take a few tries, but it gets easier with time.
work from the outer corners in, starting with your longest flares if your set has different lengths, and alternate eyes with each flare for the most even application.

put a dollop of lash glue onto your scrap of foil and let it sit and get tacky for about a minute. for today's set i used ardell lashtite adhesive for individual lashes, but i've used cheap white lash glue from the dollar store in the past and had the same results.
