experimental work using long exposure and moving laser light

Also purchased from Greenland and now part of the Arden Travel fleer, 1234 WA has an early Duple Laser body on a Volvo B10M chassis. It is an excellent scratchbuild that really captures the appearance of the Laser but I don't know who built it (possibly the late John Clarke). Oddly, a photo of this model appears on the boxes of Paragon's reissue of the former Lancer Models Laser 2 kit, although it is very different from the actual kit found in the box.

This photograph shows the Laser Ranging Facility at Goddard's Geophysical and Astronomical Observatory in Greenbelt, Md. The observatory helps NASA keep track of orbiting satellites. The lower of the two green beams is from the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter's dedicated tracker. The other laser, although appearing to originate from above, originates from another ground system at the facility. Both beams are pointed at the moon -- specifically at LRO in orbit of the moon -- in this photo.

The picture was taken on Aug. 1, 2009, when Goddard invited guests to celebrate LRO's successful arrival at the moon. Guests could gaze at stars and the moon through telescopes, talk with the LRO team and see new images from the satellite, among other activities. A number of hands-on activities for young children and their families provided knowledge and understanding of the phases of the moon, crater creation and the scale of the Earth/moon system.

The LRO mission, built and managed by NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, launched on June 18, 2009.

Well, having failed at a photographic assignment I am trying to move on.

Each time I try one of these commissions I learn something for the next time.

I just am not sure that I can do it again because it's so darn tense for me.

It's also into the normal Southern California fall routine, almost rain, then nasty Santa Ana conditions.

Yesterday I was wearing a stocking cap and jacket in the garage and today it's 90F outside.

So this is an fabric rose and three laser pointers (RGB). The exposure is about 20 seconds with a 10 stop ND filter on the lens.

It takes a bit of trial and error to get a nice balance of colors. The camera sensor is really sensitive to the red, so you have to spend a lot more time withe blue and green.

I may try it with a real white rose at some point. The fabric rose fluoresces with the blue laser, so I might get a better effect.

Cheers.

Something different that just sort of happened after the kids left their glasses near the window. and then it was tweaked.

testing how well the laser cutter works on cotton

For this pic, I was crouched down and positioned between both lasers. Each laser went through a diffuser (hence the multiple beams), so there was no serious danger to my vision.

The only laser site on PMG is way to large, so made my own much smaller version.

This is only 5 mins up the road from my house. UWO & NASA measuring things in Space! They (www.facebook.com/purplecrowlidar) have been doing this every spring for the past couple of years.

They are shooting light (green laser) and Ultraviolet light(you cant see that! hehe).

This beam is shooting about 20km straight up!

For this pic, I was crouched down and positioned between both lasers. Each laser went through a diffuser (hence the multiple beams), so there was no serious danger to my vision.

We were rewarded for lugging around a tripod all evening! We were not expecting a laser light show, but that is what we got. It was all part of a celebration for the opening of the new TGV-Est speed train line from Paris. Fantastic!

I've got three different points of view from the laser sailing event at NatWest Island Games to share today, maybe more imaginative titles to come later but this is all i got this morning!

Laser light show

This Cinelli Laser came from the 1985 Long Beach trade show. It is the 2nd generation Laser, being a Crono Strada TT and is unridden. This was taken off the display stand, wrapped up and this is it's first public viewing. Ist gen C-record runnng gear and victory brakes with Campy Aero levers. matching leather bar wrap to the Cinelli saddle.

little experiment

This telescope is an important new component of the Four Laser Guide Star Facility, which will sharpen the already excellent vision of ESO’s Very Large Telescope (VLT). Four powerful 20-watt lasers, fired to an altitude of 90 kilometres up in the atmosphere, will help the VLT correct the image distortion caused by turbulence in the air. The Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research (TNO) is developing the launch telescopes through which the laser beams will be fired. The first of these laser launch telescopes — known as the Optical Tube Assembly — is seen here in the cleanroom at TNO’s Van Leeuwenhoek Laboratory in Delft, the Netherlands, having recently held its Acceptance Review. A special anti-reflective coating gives the lens on the telescope a distinctive blue hue. The photograph was taken by Fred Kamphues, who appears on the left. He is project manager for the Optical Tube Assembly, and is also a new ESO Photo Ambassador. On the right is system engineer Rens Henselmans.
