A screenshot of my just finished box creator. Will generate boxes with tabs ready for laser cutting in any size with any material thickness u want. The app can be downloaded from here but be aware that it hasn't been thoroughly tested yet but it seems to fit when putting the sides together in Illustrator...

I started by following DustynRobots' tutorial on making gears. blog.makezine.com/archive/2010/06/make-your-own-gears.html

After about a quarter of the way through, I had enough of it figured out and just winged it from there.

The first time through it took me about 20-30 minutes.

After cutting it, I tested out the technique on a student who had never used Inkscape before, and had never ventured into my classroom.

He had a gear designed in under 5 minutes.

The creative designs from our second round of "soda bottle spacecraft" were amazing. Participants got to use the laser cutter, Dremel and recycled and 3D-printed parts to make fanciful creations.

Bei uns im FabLab kann Jede und Jeder einen Workshop machen und dabei Gegenstände mithilfe verschiedener Modelling-Programmen modellieren und anschließend dreidimensional ausdrucken. Auch SchülerInnen können mit ganz einfach zu bedienenden Programmen ihrer Kreativität freien Lauf lassen. Da der 3D-Druck mehrere Stunden dauert, werden die Objekte immer auch als Papiermodelle mittels Lasercutter angefertigt.

These were from the 2nd time around, as the 1st time the laser didn't cut through the otherside. Never expected foamcore to be that resilient.
