this one belongs to gordon hutchings, a very nice photographer who has written and published his own book on pyro. he left it at my desk while he and his wife researched in our genealogy department.

Step through the wooden doors and into a bygone era of photography! This atmospheric vintage studio is bathed in soft, diffused light streaming through the large window, creating the perfect illumination for portraiture, much like the master photographers of yesteryear would have utilized natural light. At the heart of the room stands a beautiful large format camera mounted on a sturdy wooden tripod, poised and ready to capture moments in time. Nearby, a display showcases a collection of framed photographs, offering a peek into the faces and lives captured by a similar camera long ago. The room features warm wooden walls and floor, a textured backdrop ready for posing, and various pieces of historical studio equipment, hinting at the fascinating process of early photography. It feels like the photographer might step back in any moment, ready to pose their next sitter and immortalize their image on a glass plate or film.

Working on moving the space a person occupies as opposed to the person themselves.
This was shot with a large format (4x5) camera. I guess because he was further away, I had a LOT more trouble keeping Matt's position standard. Also he totally switched his feet after the first picture. :C I stressed out SO MUCH over this project, as it's totally not up to my usual standards, but I managed to scrape by with an A-.

What started out as practice using a 4x5 large format camera for the first time (making all of these photographs using a 6x9 medium format back), it slowly turned into a cohesive, endearing project that I really enjoyed.
This collection reflects on the quiet, ordinary moments of life around our home - the slow, peaceful, and natural pace of the nature and scenery that surrounds us.
