USAID’s Maternal and Child Survival Program (MCSP) is providing technical assistance to the Government of India to expand access to quality family planning (FP) services and contribute to India’s FP2020 commitments, by promoting the expansion of the current set of contraceptives (also called "basket of contraceptives") available in India in the states of Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Assam, Telangana and Maharashtra. MCSP is furthering the technical and programmatic expertise gained under its predecessor, the Maternal and Child Health Integrated Program (MCHIP) that successfully initiated and established the post-partum family planning (PPFP) program in India with a focus on post-partum intrauterine contraceptive devices (PPIUCD). MCSP helps strengthen facilities and capacities of providers to ultimately improve the quality of FP services across the focus states.
🎉 Surgery went well, with no complications.
⏰ It took longer than expected (a little over 4 hours), which is at the very top end of the expected time for a laparoscopic hysterectomy (usually 1-3 hours, max 4).
😴 I ended up staying in the #recovery room for an extra 2 hours, but once I woke up, I was fine.
❤️ Everything that needed to be removed is gone, and ovaries looked very healthy so both stayed. No adhesions & very little loss of blood. Should have a “normal” recovery & go through “normal” #menopause.
😷 The anesthesiologist did a great job. I had no referred gas pain (very common in hysterectomies because your head is lower than your abdomen for the entire surgery) and no vivid dreams while I was under (which is what freaked me out during my last surgery) and no nausea at all when I woke up.
Interestingly, they were not able to identify my blood type prior to surgery (good thing I didn’t need a transfusion 😳, and thank goodness we got my blood count up in the week before surgery). Even with extensive testing after, they still don’t know (but have ruled out any blood related diseases), so now I have a new doctor for some follow up.
📷 I got to see lots of photos from inside my body before surgery & after the #uterus & #fibroids were removed (lmk if you wanna see, it’s something!). Apparently my uterus with fibroids weighed 300 grams (normal weight 60g) when removed (and they had to cut the largest fibroid open to be able to “deliver” it because it was too big to get out).
🏥 We stayed 3 days & 2 nights in the hospital. I was up & walking the morning after #surgery. The nurses (and @guentheralex) did an amazing job taking care of me.
In a week, I’ll go back to the doctor to check the incisions (4) & see how I’m healing. Until then it’s gonna be a lotta naps & walking around our apartment while I try to get my energy & appetite back!
Bodies are amazing. Can’t believe I was having an organ removed less than 5 days ago, and now I’m home & feeling mostly normal (aside from being suuuuper tired, slow & weak).
🎊 So so so happy to be back home now & have the scary part over with!

PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE: Geographic Variation in Spending for Certain High-Cost Procedures Driven by Inpatient Prices
Note: All correlations shown are significant at p<0.0001. Data were from 78 MSAs. We included all MSAs with a sufficient number of episodes to support our analyses for all three procedures. Spending was adjusted to control for geographic differences in the cost of doing business and differences in demographics and health status of enrollees in each MSA.
Lakeland was proud to host one of the first Sheep Trans-Cervical artificial insemination (AI) courses in Western Canada this weekend. Phil Purdy (USDA) and Dr Carl Lessard demonstrated and coached the participants through the procedure. This low cost alternative to laparoscopic AI enables farmers to control breeding synchronization independently of veterinary staff availability and schedule constraints. This potentially can mature the North American distribution network of lamb genetics. Alumni Jason Cooper organized the two day intensive clinic with funding from Saskatchewan's Sheep Development Board, Agriculture Demonstration of Practices and Technology (ADOPT) program and Alberta lamb Produers. Jason and his colleagues state that Trans-Cervical AI can positively impact the N. American distribution network of lamb genetics. Growing and maturing sheep farming that currently supplies 40% of domestic demand.

GASTRIC SLEEVE VERTICAL SLEEVE GASTRECTOMY OR LAPAROSCOPIC SLEEVE GASTRECTOMY SURGERY FOR HIGH BODY MASS INDEX PATIENTS.
Also called Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy, vertical gastroplasty, Greater Curvature Gastrectomy, Parietal Gastrectomy, Gastric Reduction and even Vertical Gastroplasty is performed by approximately 18 surgeons worldwide and one of them is Dr.. The originally procedure, conceived in England , was called The Magenstrasse and Mill Operation. It generates weight loss by restricting the amount of food that can be eaten (removal of stomach or vertical gastrectomy) without any bypass of the intestines or malabsorption. The stomach pouch is usually made smaller than the pouch used in the Duodenal Switch.
High Body Mass Index patients (BMI > 50-60): In America and Germany , this procedure was first performed laparoscopically in very high BMI patients to try to reduce the overall risk of weight loss surgery. Once a patients BMI goes above 60Kg/M2, it is increasingly difficult to perform a Roux en Y gastric bypass or a Duodenal Switch laparoscopically. In addition, a Roux en Y gastric bypass tends to yield inadequate weight loss for patients with a BMI greater than 60Kg/M2.

An undescended testis is a defect that happens before birth when a testicle has still not moved to its correct position, which is the scrotum or the bag of skin hanging below the penis.
This condition usually affects one testicle, but, in a few cases, the condition may effect both testicles, thereby keeping them undescended.
An undescended testis is commonly seen in premature male child.
In most cases, Undescended testis gets rectified on its own, as the undescended testis moves to its appropriate position within the first few months of life.
However, if this condition is not corrected on its own till 6 months of age, then a surgery is required to move the testicle in to its correct position.
What are the signs or symptoms of an Undescended Testicle
If you cannot see or feel a testicle in the baby’s scrotum, then this may be due to an undescended testicle.
When the foetus is still developing, testicles are formed inside the abdomen.
In normal development of the foetus, the testicles descend from the abdomen, into the scrotum, through the tube-like passage, into the groin (inguinal canal).
The above process, happens in the last couple of months of normal foetal development. When this process is halted or delayed, it leads to the condition called Cryptochordism or Undescended Testicle.
When should you consult a doctor an undescended testicle ?
An undescended testicle gets identified in the post birth examination of the baby boy.
If this happens, the baby boy will need to be examined regularly, and you should check with your doctor on the frequency of the baby boy’s examination.
It is often noticed, that if the testis has not moved to the scrotum within 6 months, chances are, the condition may not get rectified on its own.
Getting the baby boy treated for undescended testicle may lower the risk of complications in the future, like testicular cancer and infertility.
Some boys may have been born with normal testicles at birth, but the same might appear missing later. This may happen due to the following reasons:
Retractile Testicle – In this, the testicle moves back and forth, between the scrotum and groin. This may happen due to a muscle reflex in the scrotum, and may be easily guided into the scrotum with the hand, during the physical examination.
Ascending testicle – In this condition, the testicle moves back to the groin and cannot be guided back to the scrotum with the hand. This is also called acquired undescended testicle.
The corrective surgery is orchidopexy means fixing the testis in scrotum. The testis lying inside the abdomen needs laparoscopic orchidopexy.
It is best to speak to your paediatrician or doctor if you see any changes in your son’s genitals or are concerned about his developments.
To book an appointment with Dr. Prashant Jain, the best paediatric surgeon in Delhi, Call (+91) 8766350320.
Risk factors of Undescended Testicles
Factors that might increase the chances of having an undescended testicle are:
Premature birth of the baby boy
Low birth weight of the infant

i always loved the warm red lantern light . . .
me and Odin taking an early evening nap
4 days after gall bladder surgery or as the
pros call it - laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
a pile of books, the headphone cord to my iPod,
a plate of graham crackers & the ever present
glass of warm water . . .
The incision and staples and dried blood. This is where the camera went in and gall bladder came out, I think. Really itches. Feel it when my shirt pressed on these staples so I put that gauze over it.
