A golden moment at the Lakeshore pier on Lake St. Clair. The end of summer is fast approaching and I have had the opportunity to take in some very beautiful sunrises and sunsets. But, fall is one of my favourite seasons, with lots of golden colour.
While waiting for the sun to set, we hiked on top of this limestone cliff where I captured Finding Fayette: A Ghost Town in the UP Michigan from an overlook directly across from the townsite.
**********
"This limestone cliff consists of vertical or near-vertical exposures of bedrock.
Like all of Michigan’s lakeshore cliffs, vegetation cover is sparse but abundant cracks and crevices combined with calcareous conditions result in greater plant diversity and coverage than on most other cliff types. "

I hope you find this interesting, thank you for your visit!
Somewhat inspiring to see how wayward seeds grab a foothold on fallen logs, somehow endure the winter, and appear again each spring with such a tenuous foundation. Any port in a storm, I reckon...
[Large may be better]
A male Mallard preening on the shores of Lake Ontario. Maybe he's getting ready for the mating season.
Lake Michigan Shoreline at Saugatuck State Park.
This is a combination of sand, coal dust, iron, and organic material. All blown into Lake Michigan from the western shore, carried over the years across the lake by prevailing westerly winds and prevailing westerly currents. Some of the coal and iron comes from shipping on the Great Lakes. It only shows at certain times of the year under certain conditions in different places. While I consider it pollution, it does make for intresting designs.

The Queen Anne's Lace flowers have turned their autumn brown and make for a pleasing foreground here against the colorful lake and sky.
The wind was blowing pretty hard here, requiring a fairly fast shutter speed to freeze their movement.
The lateral structures behind the flowers are old jetties that extend into the lake.
A good 80% of my photography comes from this two-mile stretch of the Lake Michigan lakeshore. I live a half block from this natural gem and walk its shores every day. You'd think I'd tire of it and run out of photographic opportunities. But no, its moods, the changing weather, the many birds, and the many colors and hues it displays, all combine to present limitless opportunities to capture and showcase it in photographic form.
And then I have the joy of sharing all those images with you, which is deeply satisfying.
It is Thanksgiving in the U.S. today, a day when the nation comes together with family and friends over a big meal, renewing and celebrating relationships, and thanking God for the many blessings He has shown in our lives.
Hope you have a wonderful day today and that your life is blessed with good family, good friends, and good
living!
A simple collage combining a few of my recent images from our city's fabulous lakeshore...
Going clockwise from upper left:
1 - Three amigo gulls hang out to watch the sunset
2 - A mallard drake takes to the air and flies past me
3 - A swamp sparrow sings its heart out
4 - Our city's landmark lighthouse at the North Pier
Technically number 3 is an outlier, with my photographing the sparrow at a local marsh.
Is the lakeshore always this colorful and 'perfect'? Of course not. No place is. Plenty of dreary and drizzly days. Lots of cold and bitter winds. Grey and drab colors abound.
But they are offset by bright sunny days, warm summer sunsets, and birds and wildlife that make us smile. It's all about spending time in the field, training one’s eyes to see possibilities, and loving the outdoors and nature.
And of course, good processing is critical to good outcomes :)
Sheboygan, Wisconsin, USA....
I love you, Sheboygan!
This is another capture of the little boat house at a local lake. The autumn colours always seem to be particularly pretty at this lake and this year was no exception. I took this photo shortly after sunrise and the colours looked even more vibrant in the early morning sunshine.
A landscape shot from John Henes Park in Menominee, Michigan on the shore of Green Bay (just north of the Wisconsin state line).

This past Wednesday morning was very cold out by the lake. Lots of mist from the sub-zero (f.) temperatures.
Thanks for viewing!
