Science Museum of the University of Coimbra
The Science Museum of the University of Coimbra (Museu da Ciência da Universidade de Coimbra) gathers the historical scientific collections of several units of the University of Coimbra, in Coimbra, Portugal. It includes the collection of scientific instruments from the 18th and 19th century of the Physics Museum, the collections of botanics, zoology, anthropology and mineralogy of the Natural History Museum, and the collections of the Astronomical Observatory and the Geophysical Institute of the University of Coimbra.
Formerly there were several museums in the university, including a museum of physics, a museum of zoology, a museum of natural history, and a museum of mineralogy and geology, which were managed by different university departments. They merged in 2006/2007 to form the Science Museum of the University of Coimbra.
Most of these collections date back to the reform of the University promoted by the Marquis of Pombal in 1772, where the teaching of the sciences took major importance, and are lodged in the contemporary buildings of the 18th century. This constitutes the most important science collection in Portugal and one of the most important ones in Europe.

The University of Coimbra (UC) is a Portuguese public university in Coimbra, Portugal. Established in 1290, it is one of the oldest universities in continuous operation in the world, the oldest university of Portugal, and one of its largest higher education and research institutions. It is organized into eight different faculties according to a wide range of fields, granting academic bachelor's, master's and doctorate degrees in arts, engineerings, humanities, mathematics, natural sciences, social sciences, sports and technologies. It is a founding member of the Coimbra Group, a group of leading European research universities, whose inaugural meeting it hosted. The University of Coimbra has approximately 20,000 students, and hosts one of the largest communities of international students in Portugal, being the most cosmopolitan Portuguese university.

El grupo Laboratorio de Samba se origina en Barcelona de una serie de encuentros realizados los últimos años en la ciudad para tocar, escuchar samba y hablar de ello. Todo ha empezado en las rodas de samba que hemos organizado por aquí, hasta hoy la forma más tradicional de realizar estas reuniones y que encuentran su ambiente preferido en la mesa del bar o en los patios de las casas. Se tratan de encuentros abiertos al público pero que van más allá de una actuación, suelen durar horas y por eso se abastecen de bebida y comida, por ejemplo la feijoada y otros platos substanciosos que no respectan mucho las estaciones del año. La vivencia del samba en las rodas, por músicos de trayectorias y orígenes diversos, llevó a la formación de esta “orquesta-laboratorio” cuyo repertorio está preparado para salir al escenario y hacer bailar. La idea de un laboratorio representa así el encuentro y la mezcla de estilos inspirada por el samba. Por otra parte, la manera de tocar de las orquestas hace sonar un repertorio que puede ser reconocido internacionalmente al reaprovechar una tradición musical y universalizarla en el tipo de arreglos y formas de interpretación. En este caso en particular, va más allá de la manera más tradicional de hacer samba sin perder su sabor. De la roda al escenario, del patio al salón de baile, tocando los compositores fundadores y saludando a los nuevos, el Laboratorio de Samba busca recrear en los conciertos que viene realizando en Barcelona este ambiente que vive entre el presente y el pasado musical de Brasil.
Located near one of the world’s most famous bridges, the Ponte Vecchio, our café’s name derives from the historic Arco delle Carrozze (Arch of the Coaches), much in use during the XVII – XIX centuries.
In 1990, after years of experience, Stefano, Lorenzo, and Silvia decided to fully dedicate themselves to their passion for artisanal gelato.
Twenty years later, they are continuing to embrace the art of authentic Florentine gelato, maintaining the tradition and quality of gelato “as it once was,” genuine and flavorful.

You may also relax on our outdoor terrace and enjoy the romantic views of Ponte Vecchio and of the Vasarian Corridor, all the while savoring a variety of choices from our menu – from cappuccino and brioche to a succulent lunch, to an aperitif or wine tasting in the company of friends, or perhaps simply indulging in our homemade gelato.
