Barcelona. --1991--.

The beautiful spotless beach at Barceloneta (the old fisherman's district) beach. It was done up as part of the preparation for the 1992 Olympics before which it was said the Barcelona 'had its back to the sea'.

Artist Rebecca Horn’s imposing monument “Homenatge a la Barceloneta” (Homage to Barceloneta) welcomes you to the sand and Mediterranean sea at La Barceloneta beach. The main sculpture is called L'Estel Ferit (the wounded star or the injured comet) and was commissioned for the 1992 Olympics.

There's no cigarrettes. Thanks.
La Barceloneta. In a Bar where the gentleman who works there has a very bad mood...
Taken the last day of 2008. About 7p.m.
Day 5 of our French Riviera and Adriatic cruise aboard the Celebrity Constellation marked our arrival at our fourth port of call: Barcelona, Spain. I awoke early that morning and stepped out on our veranda to capture a few sunrise photos as our ship arrived at the port. Our ship docked at the International Maritime Terminal in Barcelona.
This photo shows the view from our berth at Terminal B along Moll Adossat, overlooking Passeig de l'Escullera and the jetty at La Barceloneta. The curved tower visible toward the left is the W Barcelona. The Port of Barcelona is situated along the Balearic Sea, which joins the larger Mediterranean Sea beyond.

La Barceloneta is a neighbourhood in the Ciutat Vella district of Barcelona, Catalonia,Spain. The neighbourhood was constructed during the 18th century for the residents of the Ribera neighbourhood who had been displaced by the construction of the Ciutadella of Barcelona.
The neighbourhood is roughly triangular, bordered by the Mediterranean Sea, the Moll d'Espanya of Port Vell, and the El Born neighbourhood. This neighbourhood even has its own flag. The neighbourhood is serviced by its own stop on the Barcelona Metro (L4).
La Barceloneta is known for its sandy beach (which made an appearance in Don Quixote, book 2) and its many restaurants and nightclubs along the boardwalk. Over the past several years the quality of the sand on the beach has become a source of continued controversy. In February 2008, the World Health Organisation began an inquiry designed to ascertain whether the sand meets WHO beach health and safety guidelines.
