If you'd never heard of the Kurtis Sport Car until Matchbox modelled it don't worry, I suspect most collectors didn't either! Made for just one year and around 40 being built it was very quickly lost in the mists of time.
Matchbox who have never been afraid of choosing very obscure low production run vehicles to model predictably did a fantastic job under the usual strict cost constraints imposed upon them.

"The Kurtis Sport Car is a two seat aluminium body sports car designed by Frank Kurtis and manufactured by Kurtis Kraft in 1949 and 1950. Built with numerous components including the chassis and V8 engine from a 1949 Ford, the KSC was built as both a production car and kit car. It was sold at a base price of 3495 Dollars. It could cost up to 5,000 Dollars with options".
It could never be sold at a viable profit and quickly disappeared but those guys at Matchbox who love a real rarity and brought us their version for 2022 Case A.
Looking like nothing on the roads at the time, they've captured its cigar shaped body as well as its chrome infused centre sections and front and rear external features. Absolutely stunning from every angle.

I took this photograph at the SeeRed meeting at Donington Park in September 2004 where the car took part in the Ron Flockhart Memorial Trophy Race.Shown in the programme of the event as the Kurtis-Indy single seater of John Guyatt, it's a 4.2 litre 1957 Kurtis Offenhauser KK500G and it was driven in the race by Stuart Harper. This car took part in the 1957 Indianapolis 500 race as the Meguiar Mirror Glaze Special, and also took part in the USA v Europe Race of Two Worlds at Monza in 1957 and 1958 driven by Ray Crawford.

Brand new Matchbox 1949 Kurtis Sport Car which debuts in the first batch of 2022 and probably one of the most unusual/popular of this mix.
Its no natural beauty with its homespun styling but its definitely unique and Matchbox have put a lot of effort into replicating it.
