Die Aufnahme zeigt Szenicsite- und Powellitekristalle auf einem Gesteinsbrocken aus der Jardinero Mine No.1, Inca de Oro, Atacama, Chile. Die grünen stabförmigen Szenicsitekristalle haben folgende Chemische Formel:
Cu3[(OH)4|MoO4].
Die Chemische Zusammensetzung besteht aus den Elementen: Kupfer, Molybdän, Sauerstoff und Wasserstoff.
Das Mineral Powellit ist ein eher selten vorkommendes Mineral aus der Mineralklasse der „Sulfate". Es kristallisiert im tetragonalen Kristallsystem mit der Zusammensetzung Ca[MoO4], ist also chemisch gesehen ein Calcium-Molybdat.
Das Mineral "Powellit" entwickelt meist dünntafelige bis dipyramidale Kristalle mit Harzglanz bis schwachem Diamantglanz auf den Oberflächen, findet sich aber auch in Form derber Massen, Krusten und Anflüge. In reiner Form ist Powellit farblos und durchsichtig. Durch vielfache Lichtbrechung aufgrund von Gitterbaufehlern oder polykristalliner Ausbildung kann er aber auch weiß erscheinen und durch Fremdbeimengungen eine graue, hellgelbe, grünlichgelbe, bräunlichgelbe oder blaue bis fast schwarze Farbe annehmen, wobei die Transparenz entsprechend abnimmt.
