Indonesia is known for "civet coffee" so-called because the beans are picked from the feces of the Asian Palm Civet. The civet eats the coffee berries, digests the pulp and leaves the whole bean in its dropping which is then collected, cleaned and otherwise processed into coffee.
I went to a little farm that had a couple of civets and made coffee from their poop. At the end of the tour you have the opportunity to taste the coffee and then buy from for about $60 for a half pound.
I do love good coffee and had read rave reviews of this stuff but I was pretty unimpressed. I'm sorry to report that as I hoped that it would be good. Despite that it was a really interesting little side trip which included a tour of their gardens which featured a lot of native plants.

Marilyn drove us to Andersonville to meet a friend she hadn't seen in many years. Tim, a native Chicagoan who'd lived briefly in Michigan, had returned to Chicago a couple years ago. We met at Kopi Cafe -- my kind of place with its great coffee and desserts, and eclectic décor. We sat in the warm front section, on floor pillows around a low table, and near the front window where we could watch the rain. After ordering a double Americano, I joined the discussion on politics, movies, and more. Marilyn asked Tim about his Lobster Butter Love t-shirt, which, it ends up, is RoosRoast's signature blend coffee from Ann Arbor.
yummmmm
As soon as we tasted the coffee we understood why guests are supposed to bring sugar to the funeral. I can't even imagine how much they go through over the course of the ceremony. They were mixing coffee, sugar and hot water in a MASSIVE bucket before putting it in those pots to serve. good stuff.
Mataram Kopi Luwak, Yogyakarta.
"This is the Luwak that eats the coffee berries and the defecated seeds collected by farmers. The commercial production of luwak coffee is rather controversial due to intensive farming methods in which civets in battery cage systems are force fed the coffee beans."
Kopi luwak or civet coffee, refers to the seeds of coffee berries once they have been eaten and defecated by Paradoxurus hermaphroditus (Asian civet cat, toddy cat, luwak, musang pandan). The name is also used for marketing brewed coffee made from the beans. Kopi luwak is the most expensive coffee in the world and its retail prices reaching as high as US$700 per kilogram.

Kopi merupakan pendamping setia kala kretekus menikmati kretek, baik pagi hari, siang mapun malam. #industrirokok, #tembakau, #kretek.
