Gottfried and Dominikus Böhm, Architects, 1929/1970.

The original structure with the travertine facade by Dominikus Böhm was erected in 1929-30 and was added on to by his son Gottfried in 1966-70. Gottfried continued the travertine facade on the upper levels, but executed a completely different--but at that time for him very characteristic--sculptural concrete base. It has recently been refurbished.

In the background one can see the Kolumba museum by Zumthor.

frame # 12 Relationship Köln - A double exposure featuring some DB bicycles in front of some Douglas window advertisements and a scene of Warhol Brillo boxes stacked next to the doorway into an exhibition at the Ludwig Museum.

I am overwhelmingly pleased with this image. Ironically I was just saying to a friend yesterday how I have been feeling really unfulfilled with photography lately. How it seems that we are so inundated today with photographs, photographs, photographs everywhere we look and even when we are not looking. Everyone considers themself a photographer and "photography" feels dead.

So I threw this old roll of 120 in with another roll I was developing for a friend, and low and behold this frame comes up from back in April of last year. And I'm in awe of it as if I didn't even make it myself. Perhaps it is the magical happenstance that comes with making double exposures that pleases me? Because this image is certainly more intriguing than either of the 2 separate exposures by themselves. Where to go from here? Who knows...

Keulen (Duits: Köln) is een stadsdistrict (kreisfreie Stadt) en metropool in Duitsland, in de deelstaat Noordrijn-Westfalen, gelegen aan de Rijn, ten noorden van Bonn en ten zuiden van Neuss en Düsseldorf. Keulen is de hoofdstad van het Regierungsbezirk Keulen en de officieuze hoofdstad van het Rijnland.
