Porta Portese è il nome di una porta di Roma. Fu costruita in concomitanza della costruzione delle Mura Leonine in sostituzione della precedente Porta Portuensis.
Dalla porta inizia la via Portuense, la via che reca a Porto, la località alla foce del Tevere, vicino Ostia che aveva sostituito quest'ultima come porto per i rifornimenti della città di Roma. Con l'arretramento della linea del mare, Porto è stato sostituito da Fiumicino
Il mercato
Dà il nome ad un famoso mercato romano, situato subito fuori della porta, lungo la via Portuense e nelle immediate vicinanze.

I'm guessing that Dad took this while he was stationed at Ft. Bragg. I can't tell you a whole lot more about the shot other than the fact that it's of an L&N RS-3 and that it's on Ektachrome developed in 1972.
How cool are RS-3's, by the bye? I think they're my favorite diesel locomotives. I had always hoped to shoot the Battenkill Railroad sometime. I still might have to head out and shoot that line sometime.

Salton Sea Yacht club, an ugly yet well maintained structure situated in Desert Beach Salton Sea, is all that remains of K hotel whihc was the site for a famous photograph taken by some famous photographer whos name I forget..
A series of slide scans taken in 1986 of Kinder Downfall. This is the point at which the River Kinder which drains a large part of Kinder Scout tumbles over the edge of the plateau in a near 30m drop. As can be seen from some of the photos, it struggles to do even this when a strong westerly wind blows...
