So this is going to take some explaining. The kitty is watching for birds to light on the feeder. The feeder is framed by crack-and-peel copper -- an experiment to see if it's true that slugs create an rather unpleasant chemical reaction when they crawl over it. If it fails, the slugs will come out after 10 pm and devour all the birdseed. Honest.

 

So the message is that there is so much to know about the world and everything in it and how it all works together. And I feel overwhelmed by it all and disappointed that I can only learn such an infinitesimal part of it.

3 May 2026 – Discussions under way at the South Asia Subregional Economic Cooperation (SASEC) knowledge event Subregional Seminar Opportunities for South Asia in a Fragmented World hosted as a side event of the 59th Annual Meeting of the ADB Board of Governors in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

 

The session analyzed the structural changes in global trade, assess integration gaps and participation in global value chains, and explored strategies to enhance connectivity and resilience. The discussion highlighted pathways to build resilient supply chains, expand trade, and support sustained and inclusive growth across South Asia.

 

The 2026 ADB Annual Meeting is being held from 3 to 6 May under the theme “Crossroads of Progress: Advancing the Region’s Connected Future.”

 

The ADB Annual Meeting brings together policymakers, private sector leaders, development partners, and innovators to advance practical solutions in connectivity, digital innovation, and innovative finance—strengthening the region’s capacity for resilient and sustainable growth. Over the years, the event has become a leading forum for discussion of economic and social development issues in Asia and the Pacific.
