Knowing I had a busy day ahead, full of meetings, I checked my email before heading in for a 9:00 meeting. All in all, I'm on the computer way too much. I have started setting aside an hour or two each night where I shut my laptop and focus on my knitting, my reading, my boyfriend, or myself. But trying to focus on any one of those things while also surfing between gmail, facebook, flickr, raverly, twitter, bloglines etc., is just impossible for me. I sometimes feel like I have adult onset ADD!

"Mimulus Maximus Mix", 'Mimulus x hybrida', Erythranthe hybrid cultivar, NE Seattle, King Co., WA, 26 May 2014.
Knowing that I am fond of Mimulus plants, Esta purchased these strange Mimulus clones to put in our annual hanging baskets, etc. Of course, I couldn't help speculating on how these small plants with mega-flowers were achieved. The flowers resemble several Mimulus species but have outsized flowers, twice the size of the native species' flowers. They are very likely of hybrid origin, and there were three distinct morphs lumped by the retailer under the names "Mimulus Maximus Mix" with the variatal name, 'Mimulus x hybrida' on a separate tag. Very strange... I will speculate and say that this form is derived from Erythranthe cupreus.

By Erik. It's a pleasant feeling to discover some special place that you never expected. This museum of homestead-era homes from all around Fort Rock Valley of Oregon's High Desert offered plenty of perspective and a bounty of indoor photo opportunities, not something I normally find myself enjoying.
