Knowing no secrets having no visions

Knowing no secrets having no visions

I enter an immediate and sinuous realm

I write in the shade of wood with an animal impulse

I brim with a unanimous light I am yours

May all that I write be the ignorant summit

of well-being May my arms and knees

tell of the tranquillity that roundly glows

May the clear atmosphere flicker and condense

into waves of slumber and the splendor of sentences

And may words have the murmur of groves

and of living waters and of still shadows

And may the fragrant breeze that frees and enthralls

revive the bliss of being an illumined lover

Knowing where this photo was taken would be nice. This is the Fire Alarm Office of a major city. There are 14 registers and take up wheels and four operators at the ready (including one with a large cigar in his mouth). A massive circuit board has a Gamewell name plate. The calendar on the back wall is for February 1909.

“Letting there be room for not knowing is the most important thing of all. When there's a big disappointment, we don't know if that's the end of the story. It may just be the beginning of a great adventure. Life is like that. We don't know anything. We call something bad; we call it good. But really we just don't know.”

I don’t mind people knowing that I’m a dog, I never really expected people to believe that I was a creepy one inch high ventriloquist dummies head.

But what really gets me is trying to use a conventional keyboard - mouse setup with paws this big!

Please view large…but beware of the dog.

Knowing that 87002 was heading back on 1M16 I decided to gamble on going to Cathiron, hoping the sun had risen sufficiently. Well it hadn't so here's a record shot for posterity.

Feel this calming presence -

Be enfolded by its love

And let your life be guided

By a power from above,

When children lay them down to sleep,

Two Angels come. their watch to keep,

Cover them up. safely and warm,

Tenderly shield them from every harm.

And when they wake at dawn of day,

The two Angels wont go away,

Resume their work of care and love

And God Himself keeps watch above ....

Finally the money shot of the trees the park is named after, Yucca brevifolia or Joshua tree as it is more commonly known is the start attraction of the park. If you are entering the park from the south entrance like i did you will not find many trees until you reach almost until the mid point of the park. The tree requires a particular type of temperature range and grows in the cooler Mojave region of the desert.

The name Joshua tree was given by a group of Mormon settlers who crossed the Mojave Desert in the mid-19th century. The tree's unique shape reminded them of a Biblical story in which Joshua reaches his hands up to the sky in prayer.Joshua trees are fast growers for the desert; new seedlings may grow at an average rate of 7.6 cm (3.0 in) per year in their first ten years, then only grow about 3.8 cm (1.5 in) per year thereafter. The trunk of a Joshua tree is made of thousands of small fibers and lacks annual growth rings, making it difficult to determine the tree's age. This tree has a top-heavy branch system, but also has what has been described as a "deep and extensive" root system, with roots possibly reaching up to 11 m (36 ft) away. If it survives the rigors of the desert it can live for hundreds of years with some specimens surviving up to a thousand years. The tallest trees reach about 15 m (49 ft). New plants can grow from seed, but in some populations, new stems grow from underground rhizomes that spread out around the Joshua tree.

As a younger me I had a passion in snapping images of my friends without them knowing, here Krisse and Dennis where the unsuspected victims, the played in the same band Crayon in the late 1990s here they were on the way to the same café as I after some studio session, they never saw me, but at the café later I told them that I snapped them…

Dennis the darker one, was in my aesthetic course Krisse I knew from the Café and because he was in a band with friends of mine…

…we actually had a plan that I should be a go-go dancer at a live show, the plan was that I should stand on a table with a latex mask and have my chest bare and covered in oil or grease and dance to their live show, all band members had agreed, but Krisse (the one wearing jeans) vetoed our proposal…

"Shall I write it in a letter?

Shall I try to get it down?

Oh, you fill my head with pieces

Of a song I can't get out."

I asked my boyfriend what my concept should be for today and he simply said 'love' .

I immediately thought of the feeling of comfort that I have with him. Just knowing that you have someone to believe in, confide in, and to support you in all that you do.

This photo was also inspired by the song 'Bloom' by the Paper Kites.

Not knowing where to start following last week's visit to the Carpathian Mountains in Romania, my first upload was actually taken on the last day of the trip, at Moldovița. Following a night of heavy snowfall, Resita 0-8-0 tank 764-431 'Bucovina' (carries maker's plate Cominatel Metalurgic, Romania, W/No.2609 of 1951) heads a demonstration logging train on 19 March 2015. The Moldovița system was opened in 1900 but sadly closed in 1999. Attempts to revive the 760mm gauge line for tourism have been troublesome, but timeless scenes like this can still be witnessed, thanks to the efforts of an Austrian preservation group and the enthusiasm of former railway employees. The following website, although now dated and intended for marketing purposes, provides useful information and history of the Romanian Forestry Railways if you wish to delve further into this absorbing subject. For further reading on this and the Viseu de Sus system, which will feature in future uploads, refer to: beyondtheforest.com/Romania/CFR3.html

Knowing I’ve eliminated toxic people from my life and have surrounded myself with love and minimal drama. 😎😎😎

Taken at 8pm, knowing I was going to come back later on for some night shots. The sun was just hidding in and out making exposure difficult.

Thanks to some great work by Dennis.P aka TECHNO, BigDaedy and Joep Klazen aka Dutchtrains I got excited to revisit my Traxx AC2 in NS Hispeed Fyra livery again. My major problem was always it didn't look "right", but thanks to now using both cheese- and roof slopes, plus the awesome idea of Dennis.P to use 1x1 round bricks with hole for the lights, I think I'm quite close to where I want to be.

The intention is to build this one the same way as my E2-B (which is finished, I just need to make a second copy, motorize it and make pictures...), meaning in little sprints and "good enough" practice. Even though knowing my history with the Traxx (and the great models by the other builders) the chances of finishing this thing any way other than perfect in my own eyes might be small ;)

Alliums displayed at the RHS Flower show by W.S. Warmenhoven the Dutch firm established in 1885.

Knowing that I’m not so great at drawing people, I decided to practice. This page took about 6 weeks, a couple of big cities and small towns, a state fair, a state park, a conference, and a diner or two to complete. It’s the last page of this sketchbook.

I knew when I finished my last shoot with Erin that I saved two test film shots for Amanda.

I knew when I left my house that there were still two in the camera.

Got Amanda some food while I proved a point at some sandwich shop that's eluded me til now right beside USC campus, then headed over to a little fountain on campus to be eaten alive by mosquitoes and start our shoot. She COULD NOT stop fidgeting which is tough on a Spectra, so pulled out the SX70 to try a couple shots I might use for the magazine.

And immediately forgot that I had new film in the camera.

"Oh, the film counter says I still have two shots left. Guess I left some expired stuff in here. Might as well just shoot whatever."

Thank god "whatever" worked out.

-So this may end up in the magazine, but it kinda breaks the "rules". But there are many other shots you'd simply love, so head here and get yourself a copy of issue 1.

Knowing all the things you just escaped.

Knowing, just where you are blowing

Getting to where you should be going

don't let them get you down

Making you feel guilty about

Golden rain, will bring you riches

All the good things you deserve and now

Climbing, forever trying

Find your way out of the wild, wild wood

Now there's no justice

Only yourself that you can trust in

And I said high tide, mid afternoon

People fly by, in the traffics boom

Knowing, just where you are blowing

Getting to where you should be going

Knowing that another batch of snow was coming, I made myself do a drive SE of the city two days ago. I didn’t feel at all like going out, but I think I was out for about 5 hours total. I also needed to check what my car was doing. It worked fine until I was way out east, but when I turned around to start going home, all the lights went out on my dashboard again. They did come on twice, but just very briefly. With sunglasses, I could see nothing, but without sunglasses on I could just make out a few faint numbers. Nothing at all on my GPS screen. I did think about driving straight to Honda again, but then thought that if I took it in, then I would no doubt be collecting it when we were getting the new snow. I will definitely be taking it in, though, as soon as possible.

The very first thing I saw on my drive was a coyote – extremely distant and I was looking at it, wondering if it was a small, dead bush, until it suddenly got up and ran, ha. No photo.

Also took photos of various old barns and sheds, including several new-to-me ones. Called in at Herronton, too, just to take a few shots of the old grain elevator.

Not much at all in the way of birds, apart from two very distant flocks of Gray Partridge, a Rough-legged Hawk, and one extra special sighting. When I was driving westwards on my homeward drive, I suddenly realized that it looked like something white on top of a light pole, right at the intersection before I was going to turn north. A beautiful female Snowy Owl! A few huge truck trailers and other vehicles driving just there, yet the owl chose that pole. I was only sitting in my car for a handful of minutes, and she was looking away from me, apart from two or three quick glances in my direction, so there was no point in taking lots of identical shots. Not the greatest photos, as they were taken through the windscreen. I was SO thankful to see her, as this was the first Snowy Owl of this year for me. Very soon, they will all be flying way up north till next winter.

Why can’t the dogs just put their nose to good use, like by finding the tivo remote? But no, instead they have dedicated their lives to sniffing out the world’s grossest smell… and rolling in it.

Boston, Lincolnshire, 27th December 2019. Pentax Espio camera and Kodak Pro Image 100ASA film.

Going back to places passed in the past, not just by me but by generations of my family - my great, great grandparents ran a pub in this neighbourhood.

These are buildings and scenes that I see in my mind's eye daily in my current life, even though I haven't lived in Boston since 1992.

This scene is interesting to me because there used to be an old house on this plot - I am talking late 1970's. As I recall, it was a Victorian place and no one had lived in it for a long time. The rest of the site was a Mercedes Benz/BMW/Subaru garage.

My dad knew various business people in the neighbourhood and I used to visit them with him for his job when I wasn't at school. When I was about 6 we went to look around the house and I remember walking around this empty house. I was a big ABBA fan (because I was completely groovy even then) and I thought of the line "walking through an empty house" and how I was actually doing it. It's kind of scary to realise how popular culture had completely impregnated my childhood mind, and continues to have a "long tail" now into my fifth decade on the planet.

This site was developed over the years and has been shops for ages, and being near a bridge over a big drain it is a busy place where I passed by many, many times in my life when I lived there.

Yet what I see now and what is left of it is meaningless to just about anyone - even me. Maybe this is a way of thinking how "places" are in the heart as much as on the planet.

The Kodak film is not so good for an overcast day, but I had to keep shooting! I realised the Big Mini camera I had been using had stopped working properly when I was trying to use it to take this very photo, so I switched to the Espio. Be prepared!

Knowing that Inter Regio IR1979, the 15:13 Basel SBB to Zurich HB was booked for a pair of locomotives, I was ready and in position to record Class Re 4/4" locomotives 11115 & 11218 as they swept through Killwangen-Spreitenbach.

Even in the end, the story is beautiful knowing more will come again. The end of one of my magnolia blooms and even if the petals are gone, it's beauty still remains I think!! Look at the colors and the textures...still gorgeous :) And, more will come again!! Happy Bokeh Wednesday!

Maybe in large?

Azra, born in Rotterdam

“My parents came here without knowing anyone. They did not know how their family was during the war. Here they had a deaf child. But they never played the victim. They learnt sign language, and taught it to my sister, and they put so much effort into it. That is why I am where I am. And I am also there for them, when they start telling their stories, which I will pass on to my children again. I struggled with my three identities: Bosnian, Dutch and deaf. But like my parents, I choose to always make the most of it. I want to communicate with people and I am getting better and better at it.”

Srebrenica is Dutch history

On 11 July 2020, it is exactly 25 years ago that the Srebrenica genocide took place. In just a few day nationalistic (Bosnian-) Serb (para) militaries killed 8,372 Bosnian Muslim men and boys. At the time, Dutchbat, the Dutch infantry battalion that was part of the United Nations peacekeeping force, was responsible for the protection of the enclave of Srebrenica. With the national campaign Srebrenica is Dutch history we draw attention to the Srebrenica genocide and its role in Dutch history.

Stroom Den Haag supports this project with a.o. a window presentation, as part of its long-running program See You in The Hague which explores the identity of The Hague as an International City of Peace and Justice through art.

Part of the campaign is a temporary monument on the Plein in The Hague (from 11 July 2020), an initiative of collective Bosnian Girl. 25 portrait photographs of Bosnian Dutch women and men of 25 years old are placed in a circle. With their double identity they symbolize the connection between Dutch and Bosnian history. The portraits were made by photographer Robin de Puy. The portraits form a protective shell around the bereaved families, the survivors of the war in all of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Dutchbatters and others involved.
