#macromondays #peel

I decided to share this image for the latest #mcromondays challenge called #peel !

It actually shows one of the tiny little helpers in some hard kitchen work. He had to peel the carrots.

The term "peel" can refer to different things depending on the context. Here are a few descriptions based on various contexts:

Fruit or Vegetable Peel:

The peel is the outer skin or rind of fruits and vegetables. It serves as a protective layer, shielding the inner edible part from environmental factors and potential damage. Peels vary in texture, thickness, and flavor; for example, the thick, bitter peel of an orange contrasts with the thin, delicate skin of an apple. Some peels, like those of cucumbers or apples, are often eaten along with the fruit, while others, like those of bananas or oranges, are typically discarded.

Process of Peeling:

Peeling refers to the act of removing the outer layer of fruits, vegetables, or other items. This can be done using various tools such as a knife, peeler, or even by hand, depending on the item and the desired result. For instance, potatoes can be peeled with a peeler to remove the thin outer skin, while an orange can be peeled by hand to access the juicy segments inside.

Peel in Cooking:

In cooking, the term peel can also refer to a thin strip of citrus fruit's outer skin, which contains essential oils and imparts strong flavors. Citrus peel, like that of lemons or oranges, is often used as zest to add fragrance and taste to dishes and beverages.

Peel in Other Contexts:

In a different context, "peel" can refer to a wooden paddle used in baking to transfer pizzas, bread, or other baked goods into and out of an oven. This tool, often called a "pizza peel," typically has a long handle and a flat surface for sliding under the dough.

Peel in Cosmetic Treatments:

In the realm of skincare, a peel refers to a treatment where a chemical solution is applied to the skin, causing it to exfoliate and eventually peel off. This process reveals new, regenerated skin that is typically smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin. Chemical peels are used to improve the appearance of the skin on the face, neck, or hands.

Happy Macro Monday!

Thanks for all your faves and comments everyone!

I really appreciate them!

Not sure what is novel about squeezing a clove of garlic, but it is marked on the handle.

Focus stack (16 images). Shot with two off-camera flashes (Leica SF 60/Leica SF C1 trigger), Flash A camera right at 45 degrees, 60 degrees above subject, modified with MagMad MagBounce diffuser. Flash B mounted on boom, above subject, bounced off 32 inch white umbrella.

That's also a shot which I wanted to take for a very long time! As you may know it can be pretty difficult to light up a low key scene... but I'm happy with my result. I hope you are, too ;)

It's spoon time again :D You may remember my little project from last year... I never gave up the idea to go on with my little series.

Strobist info: I used two 80cm x 80cm softboxes with two YN560III (triggered by a YN560TX). Each of them was positioned on one side.

Macro Mondays: Kitchen

This is a rather simple vintage kitchen tool. As far as we know it was used as some kind of hand mixer / whisk / frother (you rolled the stick between your hands to move/rotate the 4 cm wide 'star'). It belonged to my husband's gran, but he can't remember that she ever used it - so it might have be some family heirloom of hers

It's the only vintage technology I found here at our flat except for the more common vintage photography equipment (analogue bodys, lenses, exposure/light meter) and cassettes / records / turntable : ))

Love the swoops and lines and repetitions and simplicity. How a simple pastry cutter can be elegant in the shadows. In this quarantine, I "knead" a pastry cutter for bread making!
