These shelves were the final bit of the kitchen to be completed, and I'm soooo happy with them! They really brighten up this corner......I still have to add a few more things to fill them though.

Kitchenaid was celebrating its 90th birthday and invited a bunch of dutch foodbloggers for a workshop in Pat’s Kitchen in Waalwijk. The menu was promising enough, but the prospect of winning a Kitchenaid Artisan Mixer was helping too. And despite not winning it I had a brilliant evening: beautiful cooking studio, capable chefs, mouthwatering equipment (all kitchenaid appliances, who knew they have everything you need to design your kitchen!), lovely food and last but not least, great company. Always fun to meet people who won’t stare at you like you’re crazy when you tell them you make pictures of about anything you eat.
The menu itself was already worthwhile the trip. On the picture above my favourite of the evening: Mohawk sole
For the fish:
4 small soles (sliptong in dutch)
olive oil
Skin the small soles if your fishmonger didn’t do that for you yet. Then take a pair of scissors and cut the sides off. Steam the soles with (some or a lot of, I’m not sure) olive oil for I’d guess 10 minutes.
For the sauce
1 dl fish- or mussel fond/stock
1 lemongrass, crushed
½ shallot, chopped
2 T butter
1 ½ T crème fraîche
Gently simmer the fond/stock with the lemongrass and shallot for about 20 minutes. Pass the liquid through sieve, add the butter and crème fraîche. Mix and fluff with your hand-held blender. Add pepper & salt to your liking.
Serve the sole (have of the fillets seperately to create the mohawk) with mashed potatoes and some leek, poached in sweet & sour liquid. At this workshop, the leeks were stuffed with an oyster. Unfortunately kept “too warm” in an oven, so both oyster and leek were ruined. But other than that I thought it was a brilliant dish. Not in the least because I never cared much for sole before.

Apparently KitchenAid Superba ovens (#9754365) have their own flaky little bugs... just like iPhone 1.0's flaky mic and touchscreen. Post oven-fire / oven-cleaning, the oven door locked (and won't unlock!!!) and I started seeing the dreaded (though well documented!) "F5:E7" bug (the kitchen appliance equivalent of the blue screen of death?).
So I followed instructions I found online, cut the power to kitchen, waited a bit and now I'm stuck with the equally-dreaded (and also well documented, thank you internets!) "PF" bug.
I need two people to try the fix for this one - cut power while holding down certain buttons - so I'll let you know how this one works out. (McD!)

Going through photo files, and remembering an early blog post: Inside KitchenAid, where KitchenAid allowed me to shoot & share photos.
I broke the Christmas gift buying rules this year. Broke them badly. We had a limit set. I might have exceeded the limit a bit. I'm okay with it, she's worth it. More than worth it. My wife has always wanted one of these, but she didn't think she'd actually get one for another 10 years. At least. Merry Christmas, Karen. You are simply the best, and I am simply a very lucky man.
I am SOOOOOOO excited my KA arrived today, no more broken arms from hand mixing... yay! Granted he's not a looker in the conventional sense, but I wouldn't have gone for a flashy colour (my KA blender is black) even if I could've got one in the 5qt size. Would you look at those bowls of steel!
I was faced with a huge dilema today though - to bake, or not to bake?
Tomorrow my kitchen is being inspected by the Environmental Health Gestapo, so I can start a legit business baking from home. I've spent all week scrubbing the place to surgical standards, so much as I am dying to use my new toy I can't face the thought of cleaning the kitchen again aaaargh!
Tomorrow I'm going to cooking up a storm in this baby! Once my inspection is over of course....
Finally got my dream kitchen gadget. Kitchenaid Artisan 5 qt. mixer in green apple.
My leg looks all warped in reflection lol. So pretty. I'd rather have a purple or grey but when its $60 cheaper, green apple is perfect. Its so pretty~

A little product feature I did today. While looking into these mixers today I found some interesting craft projects that involve painting them. If you own one or plan to buy one I highly suggest looking into it as it's a fairly strait forward and simple process. The site You Craft Me Up has a great little tutorial and photos of how they did it.

This recipe for pizza dough is very basic. Get my extra tips on how to make the best rustic style pizza that your whole family will love you for! No more take out and greasy old pizza.
Sears had a special this week: a discount on KitchenAid's 5-quart Artisan Mixer, plus an extra glass mixing bowl with each purchase. So we finally took the plunge and crossed off an item from our kitchen wishlist.
It's Color Week!
This is my favorite kitchen appliance. I've wanted a KitchenAid Mixer for so long and when KitchenAid came out with their 90th anniversary edition, I had to have it.
I'm quite excited, I got a new Grain Mill. I used to use this old kitchenaid attachment, that didn't so such a great job at producing nice fine flour. I also just received my copy of Peter Reinhart's Whole Grain Breads: New Techniques, Extraordinary Flavor. I made the basic bread yesterday and was very impressed with the texture and flavor of the bread. I have never been able to get the right level of gluten development with my 100% whole grain bread to get the kind of crumb I wanted. Yesterday my dough passed the windowpane test perfectly and it baked up into the most beautiful loaf of 100% whole grain sourdough sandwich bread!
