Many Christians remain confused regarding the significance of the Dome of the Rock – what its purpose is, why it is significant to four major religions (Judaism, Christianity, Roman religion, and Islam), and how it came to be located in the middle of Jerusalem. To alleviate the confusion, it is best to run through a quick history of the Temple Mount, also known as Mount Zion.

Psalms 18:43-50 (ANIV)
43 You have delivered me from the attacks of the people;
you have made me the head of nations;
people I did not know are subject to me.
44 As soon as they hear me, they obey me;
foreigners cringe before me.
45 They all lose heart;
they come trembling from their strongholds.
46 The Lord lives! Praise be to my Rock!
Exalted be God my Saviour!
47 He is the God who avenges me,
who subdues nations under me,
48 who saves me from my enemies.
You exalted me above my foes;
from violent men you rescued me.
49 Therefore I will praise you among the nations, O Lord;
I will sing praises to your name.
50 He gives his king great victories;
he shows unfailing kindness to his anointed,
to David and his descendants for ever.
DRAWING NOTES:
TIME OF DAY:
Unspecified in Bible Text. Daytime.
LIGHTING NOTES:
Light from above illuminates this interior scene.
CHARACTERS PRESENT:
The psalmist (king David, standing in front of his throne).
In front of David are emissaries from various countries, offering tribute to David.
Behind David is one of his advisers, dressed in a plumb-coloured robe.
To the left of David is one of his soldier-guards.
RESEARCH/ADDITIONAL NOTES:
Psalm 18 is an example of a psalm of Thanksgiving, which describe a situation of distress & how God delivered the psalmist.
This scene is a response to verses 44 & 45, “foreigners cringe before me. They all lose heart; they come trembling from their strongholds.” I decided to show the psalmist (king David) surrounded by trembling emissaries. An emissary is an envoy, ambassador, or representative of a foreign country. In Biblical times they would often be sent from a country conquered by another power, to bring tribute (payment in valuable materials like gold) to the king of the conquering country/power.
