The last king tide of December swells the waters of Willapa Bay in the Tarlatt Slough section of the Willapa National Wildlife Refuge on the Long Beach Peninsula in southwest Washington.

the king edward trip was my best ever ruins roadtrip. totally planned last minute when one day i stumbled upon a short blurb about an abandoned hotel in far off jackson. no other info than it once existed. and with that, two days later i was on the road to see what i could find. lucky for me the building was still there and waiting. :-)
The king eider is a large sea duck that breeds along Northern Hemisphere Arctic coasts of northeast Europe, North America and Asia. The birds spend most of the year in coastal marine ecosystems at high latitudes, and migrate to Arctic tundra to breed in June and July.

The viktoria view and the king's chair are probably the most famous and highest rocks on Rügen. A hike there is not only worthwhile because of that. UNESCO ennobled the quaint old beech forests in the heart of the national park as a world heritage.
I used this moment of the brief “calmer sea” for this photo. Water is one of my favorite models. I have always found the diverse representation from roaring to still and the respective reflections exciting and fascinating at the same time.

DB Class 66 66023 with its recently applied King's Coronation special livery is seen getting underway from Rainford working 6M16 from Wilton to Knowsley.
Last Wednesday it was fun to find a king rail--on Saturday it was even easier to find, and it surprised those watching by stepping out in the mostly open area for a moment now and then.
Dieses gewaltige Graffiti fanden wir bei einem Rundgang durch das Künstlerviertel 798 welches ein altes Industriegebiet für die Fertigung von Rüstungsgütern in Peking war. Nach dem Tod von Mao Tsetung, der beginnenden Öffnung Chinas und der Einführung der Marktwirtschaft waren diese Betriebe nicht mehr nötig und wurden geschlossen.
Das ganze Graffiti war so groß das ich selbst mit 15mm Probleme hatte es ganz ins Bild zu bekommen.
We found this massive graffiti on a tour of the 798 artists' district, which was an old industrial area for the manufacture of armaments in Beijing. After the death of Mao Tsetung, the opening of China and the introduction of the market economy, these factories were no longer necessary and were closed.
The whole graffiti was so big that even with 15mm I had problems getting the whole picture.

I was quite unsure what to do for Smile on Saturday until this King Parrot joined us for lunch. He is handsome!

Angkor Wat is a temple complex in Cambodia and the largest religious monument in the world with the site measuring 162.6 hectares (1,626,000 m2). It was originally constructed as a Hindu temple of god Vishnu for the Khmer Empire, gradually transforming into a Buddhist temple toward the end of the 12th century. It was built by the Khmer King Suryavarman II in the early 12th century in Yaśodharapura, present-day Angkor, the capital of the Khmer Empire, as his state temple and eventual mausoleum. Breaking from the Shaiva tradition of previous kings, Angkor Wat was instead dedicated to Vishnu. As the best-preserved temple at the site, it is the only one to have remained a significant religious center since its foundation. The temple is at the top of the high classical style of Khmer architecture. It has become a symbol of Cambodia, appearing on its national flag, and it is the country's prime attraction for visitors.
King Eiders are true Arctic birds, breeding on northernmost tundra around the globe. But there is a gap in their distribution around Iceland and Norway where the Gulf Stream makes the waters too warm for them. They also winter around the edge of the pack ice, though occasionally lost birds wander to Britain where they often remain for years. Because they breed so far north they have to fit their breeding cycle into a couple of months between the spring thaw and the onset of winter. The males are present in good numbers on Svalbard in May but by the end of June most have disappeared as they play no part in incubation and chick-rearing. They gather in huge, all-male flocks to moult in remote areas, though very few have been discovered. The few males that do remain are incredibly skittish and it has taken me many years to manage a close photo of a full breeding plumaged male. The vagrants in Britain usually associate with Common Eider which are more confiding, which seems to make these King Eiders more approachable than usual. Most of the really close photos in Europe come from submerged photographic hides in northern Norway. This was taken near the Lilliehöökbreen glacier in northern Svalbard where we found about eight King Eiders.
The King Eider is a big part as to why wildlife Photographer's and Birder's come to Barrow Alaska.
There magnificent birds to be around and I've spent many hours in the water with them.
It's great fun when new people encounter them for the first time, especially in beautiful light. This image was captured a lil after 3 Am in the morning in sweet golden light.
Male Australian King-Parrots (Alisterus scapularis) are the only Australian parrots with a completely red head. Females are similar to males except that they have a completely green head and breast. Both sexes have a red belly and a green back, with green wings and a long green tail.
This gentle fellow is a regular visitor to my backyard in Sydney. They do not squawk or screech like a lot of parrots but have a soft bell sounding voice. This gentle, beautiful bird is delightful in every sense.
It is always a treat to see a King Eider! Taken from a long distance with stacked converters (1.4x and 2x on a 500mm lens).
I have tried many times to photograph King Eiders but had only managed distant shots previously. But this year in Svalbard I had several close photo-opportunities, including these two males flying in front of a glacier. One of my favourite ducks, they look like they have been coloured in by a 5-year old.

I originally processed this to be realistic.
